| Which oil for variable service Just looked at the tick list for my last service and I see long life oil was not used - it was on the previous. Car is set to variable service so I thought special oil was required but garage says it isnt. I think they are wrong. I had it serviced at the same place before and they say they said they used long life oil then - but the car poped up a service now warning after anout 8K - Can the car tell which oil is used? Cheers |

| Re: Which oil for variable service I believe it is a result of the amount of starts and the typeof journeys you do, mine flagged up at 11k, but as I start the car 100 times a day some days the monitor has had a fit and set the light off, I gave up with the oil issue in the end Chris, I'm using GM fully synth oil in mine 5/30 cos I get it trade for £22 a tub, a friend has a Passat TDi with 200k on it and he's had no engine problems using semi and fully oils, he using Fuchs right now. |

| Briskodian | Re: Which oil for variable service For a PD diesel 505.01 for fixed interval servicing and 506.01 or 507.00 for variable servicing. If the vehicle has a DPF 507.00 must be used (low SAP). Cam lobe and follower damage is likely if these specifications are not observed. Oil is cheap in the general picture - why risk it? rotodiesel. |

| Re: Which oil for variable service Well when this baby goes bang it's gonna be broken up, personally as covered before I think this is a lot of tosh to get ppl to buy VAG oil, the one I'm using has no ref to 505 506 507 etc, instead it's B4 and under spec, as they use it in the VXR I cannot see it will be any less capable myself. |
