Re: oops

I wonder who supplied this unit...

I got one of these off eBay some time ago, from a supplier who at this stage will remain nameless. My project dairy has a link to a detailed review of these things - it's a dead link now sadly but I'll resurrect it and add it in as I'd forgotten the link had died.

Anyway my point was it seemed to break my fuel temperature sensor. I've a 130bhp AWX and this is where it fitted. The supplier denied all responsibility and although he did offer me a refund in the end it was a bit of a battle and he refused to accept responsibility.

Buyer beware. There's no such thing as a cheap remap.

Re: oops

Chip boxes are ****e, all they do is run the car on choke 100% of the time, where ppl get increased economy is beyond me, a remap changes everything, a box just tells the engine to dump more fuel.

Usually the computer registers a better rate of consumption with these things. I'm not sure how...

I think it's to do with how they work, i.e. intercept the sensor's signal and change it - the ECU doesn't know and uses the information from the sensors to calculate fuel economy... hence the false reading.

Certainly, that's what I think happened to mine.

The fuel consumption readings you have are false, because the car does not know about the tuning box. As per the previous post, you are using more fuel because thats how these cheap ebay boxes work. They are a cheap resistor and fool the ecu into injecting more fuel by changing sensor outputs, Whats happened is your car has realised something is wrong, and logged a fault code with the sensor. You can clear the light, but it will come back on again shortly after.
