Parking sensor issues....

Hi guys,

I've had a new bumper fitted after a rear end shunt. The insurance company would not replace the sensors as they have tested each sensor and found no fault with them, even though when I go into reverse I get the dreaded long beep to tell me they are broken.

They were intermittant before, but now are completely dead. I've checked the fuses, etc and all is fine. Is there anything else I can do before I let a dealer loose with it?

Hmm. I'd be tempted to have the sensors tested by a dealer first, which undoubtedly will prove the insurance company wrong.

Submit that to them and they should be forced to reconsider, perhaps include an invoice from the dealer for replacement. I'm sure the dealer will be happy to help out if they can smell insurance money

Skoda after all will be experts on their cars... supposedly

Thing is, the bodyshop the car has been to have said the car's computer will tell them when the sensors stopped working, they have been on and off for a while though...plus I will have to pay the dealer to plug it in lol!

Re: Parking sensor issues....

There's a thread about this somewhere.

What was said before is that if you switch the 'ignition on' (not the engine) and put the car in reverse, you can hear a ticking sound from a defective sensor if you put your ear near it.

I had a problem with a continuous beep a while back and thought a sensor had failed. Tried the above - and heard nothing. Then decided to give the sensors a good wash in case there was any surface grime causing an issue - despite the fact there was nothing to see. That solved the problem.

A few months back I gave the car a good clean and waxed it. I've now found that when it is quite wet and there are beads of water on the sensors I sometimes get a continuous beep. This clears up when it is dry again. I'm about to try putting Rain-X on the sensors to see if it will stop any water beading on the sensor surface.

Surely, only if it generates a fault code...?
