Default Sat Nav problem in warranty

Hi

At the moment I am having problems with my satellite navigation system not showing up in the maxidot display It is only the top 3rd of the screen which is not showing it is ok for milage etc. But, no directional signs showing in maxidot display.

So far, the garage is unable to fix it. Under warranty.

They have checked the wiring and everything is ok and replaced the satellite navigation system.

The model of car is a skoda superb elegance 1.9 dti 130bhp.

They had it for 3 days on a daily basis but they were unable to fix it as I required it back the same night.

Then they have had it for 3 consecutive days and still unable to repair it. I am just wondering where do I stand in terms of my warranty, can they take as long as they like to repair it.

I feel that I have giving them ample time to put the problem correct, what if any recourse do I have.

Hopefully, somebody out there can help me.

Have they tried a new head unit? I'd speak to SUK Cust Service in the first instance. The fact is, this isn't correct and someone on SUK technical needs to be involved.

Do not know if they have tried a head unit yet.

They have taken bits and pieces from another car and it is still not working. But, they did not mention which parts were exchanged .

Thanks for the heads up when I speak to them in the morning I will mention it to them.

It takes as long as it takes sadly, we aint magicians. These things are so complicated usually its a trial and error thing and that takes time.

Could well be a dash insert or maybe a coding issue.

I know it can take a while, just feeling frustrated not having the car. I think they mentioned that they had recoded the sat nav to the same settings as the original one.

Could it be something to do with the old unit was version g and the new unit was version d. As, when I did get it back the predictive speller was not working. I think (not sure, though) that is the only difference from the two. I am sure I will be corrected on this .

Just need information to feed back to the repairers, ask them to get the help of SUK if they cannot fathom it themselves.

I would now insist on a courtesy car and they keep it until it is fixed. Also as previously mentioned Skoda UK need to be involved. Good Luck.

Surely SUK will just tell you to take it to another dealer?

Courtesy car's a good idea though, tell them you want a new Superb as you're a "prospective buyer"

Or better still get it done now, rather than wait another 5+ weeks for them to get a new Superb in (which they are hardly going to give straight out as a courtesy car anyway).

Got car back yesterday but problem still not fixed. They are now going to try a new wiring harness to see if that will work. A courtesy car will be provided when I book it back in. As, at the moment I have got a bit of work to catch up on. Driving the superb is a lot more comfortable than the fabia that I will be offered as a courtesy car.

Thanks for the replys will update any progress once back into garage

A new wiring harness has been fitted but the volume control on the steering column and the directional indicator on the maxidot display are still not working. Anybody got any ideas

Has it ever worked? From my reading up on the various US and German forums the TMC unit is the key to making the DX headunit work with the Maxidot and the multifunction steering wheel. There are two models of TMC unit - the one that works with the Maxidot and the one that doesn't. I can't honestly see how yours could have escaped the factory with the wrong TMC unit, but you never know. There is a complex cable that connects the TMC to the DX unit and again, without that all plugged in 100% then maxidot won't show the directions. Finally, I believe you may need to start the TMC controller from the intial boot menu - you may want to check that has been done. And make sure you've got a TMC enabled CD too - the majority of them aren't, which is very annoying.

Your comment about the MFD D and G units is incorrect I think as all the current model Skoda branded MFD units are marked DX and they are all MFD G units as far as I can tell.

Lummox's comments about them not being magicians is quite valid - from the research I have carried out (I'm trying to just buy the bits to fully retrofit a DX into a Fabia, never mind actually fit them - Lummox is going to do that for me!) Blaupunkt and VAG extended the life on these units through a variety of bodges that 'sort-of' added various features (the original units didn't allow the Multifunction Steering Wheel and many didn't have TMC). These bodges are really poorly documented and you need to look at a wide variety of source material to work it all out.

Yes, the unit has been working for nearly 2 years and just went off, along with the sound on the remote. The disc is a genuine 2007 tmc. They put a new sat nav unit in, then the old one. Both gave directions on the sat nav display but not the maxidot. I am using a loan fabia at the moment and the garage have had the car in bits for the last 2 weeks. Still no further forward than they were on day one.

I can mention the boot loader to them and see if they have tried it.

The funny thing is the first time that the engine is started all of the maxidot displays then after about 10 seconds the top 1/3rd just goes blank.

Thanks for the responses so far

Doesn't that imply it's connected with the Maxidot in some way? Barking up the wrong tree maybe?

Lummox is right though - sometimes it takes as long as it takes. These things are inherently complicated

That said, they only have a "reasonable time" - which generally is up to six weeks - to fix a problem. Cars may not be the same as televisions and washing machines - but they're still covered under the Sale of Goods act.

Spoke to the garage today, they are still no further forward. They are running diagnostics on the car and skoda can see everything they are doing. So, least at the moment they have skoda looking at it via a link.

Hopefully this will enable them to fix it quicker.

Thanks for the input so far, have forwarded on the information given in this thread.
