| Saw this at Arnold Clark Hi. Just thought someone might be interested: 85K, 05 plate 2.5 TDI Superb at the Newcastle (Stoke) branch. On their website for £5995 but on the forecourt at £6295 I think it was... it was beige... Thats quite alot of car for the money, right? I'm sorry to admit I was in Arnold Clark... but I did manage to get out without being approached once! |

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark Wrong engine - especially if auto. The price of diesel fuel has gone up by 20% in the last year. It may also be due for a set of belts which will take the best part of a day's labour to change. No thanks. rotodiesel. |

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark Cambelt - 4 years or 80k miles whichever the sooner. You are looking at £500 easy for the parts and labour on the 2.5 v6 tdi My old one is prob still for sale in Ayr, although I got significantly more than that in a trade in for an 04 plate with 60k miles on it in Jan this year. I pity the poor bloke who traded it in, what did they get for it if AC are selling for £6k - yikes

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark So, if the book is out of date, where does one find the "official" data? It could be very important data to have in writing if you have an extended warranty in years 4 and 5 and something goes wrong? |

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark I'm currently looking into this; as far as I can presently ascertain, the 4 year belt change stipulation is a VAG UK thing only. It has the distinct aroma of yet another Milton Keynes scam to keep privately owned cars in the dealer network for longer (rep cars will run to 60/80k miles anyway, just like their competitors). Quite clever really, nothing like a bit of fear factor to get people back to the dealers - the other ones of course are the dreaded "recalls". When I get time, I'll have another look at this - a few e-mails to friendly VAG dealers in Holland should do the trick. rotodiesel. |

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark I agree with you. However, my 2.5TDi will be 3 years old in September with about 35k miles on it. I am intending to take out a 1 year or 2 year warranty with warranty direct. The situation is obviously critical for the finances. A £500+ cam belt change at 4 years and ~47k miles could be money down the pan. But if there was a cam belt failure that wrecked the engine at 4 years and 1 month it "could" give warranty direct the excuse they'd need to not pay for the repairs. See the dilemna? At >£500 + the cost of the 2nd year of an extended warranty (~£300) it could be enough to persuade me to run the car up to 4 years old rather than 5 years old. Skoda (or VAG) will not "win", I'm not going to buy another Skoda (or VAG) after the Superb anyway whether that is after 4 or 5 years. Thanks. |

| Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark It's a definate update for the 1.8t 20v engines (across the VAG range) that cambelts are 4 years or 60K..... things may be different on other engines though.

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark Hmmm, it's looking more like the Superb will go for sale at 4 years old then rather than 5. Say the cambelt change and the 2nd year of an extended warranty cost me ~£850 and changing a year earlier than planned saved me ~£1500 in further depreciation. Hmmm, worth thinking about. |

| Briskodian | Re: Saw this at Arnold Clark True enough. The replacement is likely to a be Citroen C1 or similar Toyota, however. So not so much of an issue. My needs for a large car ends soon. Thanks for the thought. |
