What milage is your Superb 2.5 averaging per gallon - per tank full. Could you state whether that's motorway, mixed, or town driving.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

On a stop start journey to work, mine can really vary depending on traffic and time of day. I can get between 37 - 42 mpg. The lead foot doesnt always help either.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

From full to almost empty about 450 - 500 miles, mostly cross country, not many motorway miles.

High 30s to low 40s mpg via the maxidot.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

Mine is a 2.5 Tip (most are I assume, but the Tip does reduce mpg) & mpg is very variable. Town driving & hills and it is in the 20s. Cross country it is late 30s or early 40s. Motorway tends to be mid to late 40s. Tends to be very poor for a few miles starting from cold.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

I live on an Island which is all stop starts and no motorways and get on average 39mpg which I find very acceptable.
In English I put about £30-£40 a fortnight in

I get 33-36mpg for my TIP. London commute so heavy traffic. Still love smoothness and refinement so fine by me.

Up until the car had around 9.500 miles on the clock i was averaging around 50 mpg, and that would have been about the same time as i bought the new wheels so i was expecting around a 5 mpg reduction but it dropped to 31mpg no matter what distances i was driving. So i put the 17" wheels back on a couple of months later but the mpg stayed at around 32mpg. I booked it in at the dealers for a diagnostic check and they said everything was as it should be, and put it down to the cold weather. Towards the back end of April the mpg has improved to 40/41 mpg but no better than that no matter how i drive.

I had it in the dealers last week to have the roof, bonnet and the two front wings resprayed which i must say the dealers Mitchells have their own body shop and the car looked as though it had just come out of the showroom it was gleaming top job Mitchells. So i asked them to run another diagnostic test but everything is as it should be, so much for the car to be more economical after 10,000 miles.

But the main thing is it still puts a big smile on my face when i give it some Thanks for the replies.

Pete - have you checked your boot?
The extra weight of four Brisky members could affect your mpg

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

I know mine isn't a 2.5, it's a 1.9 auto 130, last weeks test figures were an overall ave of 29 mpg on a full tank test, so a 2.5 auto should be around 3 mpg less, this was 80% urban btw, when I fetched it from a dealer 130 miles away it showed 45 mpg when I got home.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

I'm surprised at the diesel mpg figures quoted on here. I have a lowly 1.8T petrol, and get 37 average, and it can be 43 on a run.

I suppose the V engine diesel is a big lump, and the power and sweet noise of the engine compensates for the extra fuel consumption?

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

Get average of 42mpg over a few thousand miles per maxidot using BP ultimate. fairly mixed driving. Up to 48mpg if motorway, 35mpg on urban commute.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

My 2.5 Tip does around 35mpg on the daily commute Reading - Guildford, but can go up to 44 on a run. I tend to use the Tip after 1st>2nd - it doesn't need any fancy high revs with so much grunt. 5th won't come in under 40mph, though.

As you say, big engines have more power - but at the cost of poorer mpg.

Other factors here will be that most figures will be with the tip gearbox and with AirCon on. Both have a significant effect on mpg.

Also the engine seems optimised for long distance cruising - my mpg there is in the high 40s and without any holding back on speed. Overall, I've not noticed much effect from mph - much less than with other cars.

Despite the lowish mpg in town driving, I have absolutely no regrets about having this rather than the 130 or 140.

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

Finally used a full tank, I forgot to mention that mine is the manual gearbox. I did a round trip to a village near Peterborouogh 314 miles that used a fraction over half a tank mainly dual carraigeway driving, the remainder of the fuel was very short town driving and that was 206 miles total 520 miles. On the trip to Peterborough the computer was reading anything between 20.5 mpg to 199 mpg so the car was back at the dealers today to have the computer checked out and apparently the instrument panel is faulty and a new was has been ordered. So i put pen to paper and if my maths are right i was averaging 43.3 mpg. dormouse i could'nt agree more with your last sentence

Pete

Re: Superb 2.5 TDI owners

After one week of ownership & use of a Superb 2.5 TDI TIP I am getting low thirties on an eleven-mile each way commute on country A & B roads. I had hoped for a better return than that, but it is early days yet, I suppose.
