| Superb advice Hi been a long time lurker while i got my money saved up for me new motor. Have made my mind up on getting a superb 1.9tdi 130, but i'm undesided about which spec to go for and what i'd be missing out on going fora lesser spec. Have seen a great comfort model and noticed it said on the advert 5 speed manual was wanting the 6 speed really is that only available on the elegance spec?? Any advice would be great thanks |

| Briskodian | Re: Superb advice The 6 Speed manual only came with the 2.0 TDi, (140 bhp), the 5 speed is what all Superb 1.9 TDi (130 bhp) came with. Welcome to the site by the way!

| Re: Superb advice Sunroof most times Leather Sat Nav These are the three most prominent options you will lose, be warned though not all have the Sat or Sunroof. |

| Briskodian | Re: Superb advice Bear in mind that the top gear engine speeds for the 5 & 6 speed transmissions are nearly the same - 33 and 35 mph/1000 rpm respectively. In a country with a 70 mph speed limit, this means that the engine is turning 120 rpm more slowly at the limit in top gear with the 6 speed box compared with the 5 - not worth bothering about. The 6 speed box is less reliable than the 5 which is virtually trouble free. The PD diesels have such a broad spread of torque that 5 speeds are completely adequte anyway. In my view, the best value Superb is the base model which has the best seats - hard wearing fabric. Velour will not withstand hard use, and leather is hopeless in the cold (before the seat heater warms) and in the hot. It's also slippery and requires care to keep it looking good. The Superb really is not the most dynamically satisfying car - but is available with a really useful 4 cyl diesel engine. As a tool for doing a job, it's great but as a machine, it's about as satisfying to own as a washing machine. So, you've identified the best engine (performance and particularly economy are outstanding) - I would suggest you go for the best base model you can find/afford, then retrofit a cruise control. That's all it needs. rotodiesel. |

| Re: Superb advice gotta have cruise for my trips to france, so classic or comfort is the best bet then as long as i'm not bothered about the old leather and wood trim then? |

| Briskodian | Re: Superb advice Retrofit cruise is a really cheap job - control stalk is about £30 from GSF, then find someone with VAGCOM to enable it if necessary. It works well. Making a parts-bin special out of the Superb doesn't work because it shows its age and design limitations as soon as you drive it. As a tool, I'm really impressed with it - 800 miles to a tank of fuel on holiday and a nice smooth ride with lots of room - great. That's why most Superbs are taxis. rotodiesel. | Re: Superb advice Mine is the Classic and does not have cruise control. Am considering getting it retro fitted, as I would find it useful. It wasn't until I drove it at night that I realised it had door footwell lights! Quite a good spec, even on the basic model. |

| Re: Superb advice Get an Elegance with the 5 star type 17 inch alloys on, best looker imo, the chrome on the rub strips set it apart from the others imo, the sunroof is another essential if you go for the high spec car. |

| Re: Superb advice Or go for the comfort model with a six speed box....my car has a reasonable high spec and its fitted with a blaupunkt rome 55 sat nav...it looks rather retro with chrome circular wheels for tuning and operating the sat nav...which incidentally also plays mp3's and navigate at same time with very loud and clear voice instructions thru the front speakers......and its removeable, less chance of it being nicked...mite add some aluminium stick on trim to replace the black trims around the radio and i think it will look rather cool!! |

| Re: Superb advice going for the 1.9tdi 130 so can only get the 5 speed, see one i think i'm going to go for, go 91k on it a bit more than i wanted but the price is good. what intervals do you get the old cam belt done on them? |
| | |
| | #11 |
| Briskodian | Re: Superb advice The 1.9 130 PS diesel was the best engine ever fitted to the Superb - hope the one you're looking at is a good one. Cambelt change intervals as recommended by VAG UK are 60k miles/4 years so you would need to be absolutely certain it has been done. rotodiesel. |

| Re: Superb advice Does the Superb pd130 suffer from the same weak clutch as the fab vrs/octi pd130 if mapped or driven hard through it's life? not saying it's going to be mapped or driven hard but just an enquiry, would be interesting to hear how long the clutches tend to last in these engines. |

And btw the canbelt won't come under service stamps, even if it's been serviced at the interval the belt won't have been changed unless the owner specified it, it's an advisory rather than a must to keep warranty. | |

| Re: Superb advice I have an Elegance model on a 130 1.9. I dont have full leather (aka wipe clean), instead part leather -so it is the best of both worlds. Wood I have along with eh sunroof, and something which has saved me loads of money to date is the oil that needs replacing when the screen tells me (roughly 18,000 miles or so). Cruise control is a must (I think) for saving your licence, but you have to get used to it and it is amasing how people vary their speed on the motorway. Before you buy any car - from a garage or where ever from - Get it HPI Checked. It is £40 well spent! Who knows its history? My elegance now has 110,000 on it and my wife is learning to drive in it. |

| Re: Superb advice Something worth considering is if you have ever suffered with back problems then make sure you give it a good long test drive, the Classic and Comfort have a very poor means of lumbar support (cam adjustment) whereas the Elegance has electrically adjusted seats with a far superior lumbar adjustment. (or do what i did and fit electrically adjustable Audi S6 front seats in - they go straight in, but the airbag plug will probably need swapping over as they are usually slightly different, before you ask, NO the rear seats do not fit!) |

If I remember correctly 2005-on was changed to 75k, pre-2005 was 60k. Mine was changed at 58k and it will be again some 50k later. Call me cynical or old fashioned, but I don't trust a belt to last 60k in anyone's book... water pump will also be changed this time for a non-OE, metal impeller pump.

| Re: Superb advice I want my Superb back the most comfortable car for long trips I have ever had...Mine was a classic and to be honest it had more as standard than elegance spec Octavia, 50 mpg, low insurance and with some after market 17" wheels and decent tyres the handling wasn't that bad. They shoud be going really cheap now with the new model coming out, what sort of price are you looking to pay?

| Re: Superb advice Looks like you are after a 2003 model ....well going by the cars on the skoda site, something like this. But try a bit of haggling over the price some garages are desperate to get rid of them with massive savings on new old stock Skoda Superb 1.9 TDI PD 130 Comfort 4-Dr Saloon The only thing I can think of is that the rear seats didn't fold down until 2005 so that may affect gettting things in the boot, but as the superb won tow car of the year puttung a trailer on the back won't be an issue
