| Briskodian | I am due to replace my company car and am considering either a Superb or Octavia. The leasing company has lent me 1.9TDI 115BHP Superb Classic for a few days and I am really impressed. I know the 1.9 isn't the fastest car but it was quite adequate and although the 140BHP would be preferable it comes down to tax unfortunately. Having read several reports in magazines about the 'wallowy ' handling I was fearing the worst but even that was not as bad as I was expecting and found it could be driven quite briskly along country roads without too much drama. OK it leaned more than my Altea but you don't buy a Superb as a sports car! The car was an excellent cruiser and totally relaxing on the Motorway. The model I would probably go for would be the Comfort with extras like 17" alloys, ESP ,sunroof, heated seats and sunset glass. I have noticed in some pictures that there is a large display between the speedo and rev counter which I presume is the maxidot display but on the Classic I have, this is not present. Please can someone tell me whether the maxidot is an option and whether it is standard on certain models. I can't find anything to confirm this in the brochures and I have also tried searching on the forum! ![]() Also does anyone have pics they can post of a Superb with the optional X-Tended alloys. They look good in the brochure but have yet to see them on the car and before anyone starts suggesting other wheels and suspension mods remember it is a lease car. ![]() Thanks for any advice! ![]() RSA |

| Briskodian | Re: Superb as company car?? I had the same decision to make. Ended up buying an 18 month old Superb Elegance at half list price and took the car allowance. Easily as good (using any criteria) as the C class Merc I had, and has all the bell and whistles, and much more room (I reckon the boot is nearly as big as the estate C class). Cheap to run and insure, reliable, no company car tax or fuel tax (going up again next year), tax benefit from driving business miles (for first ten(?) thousand miles anyway), servicing every 20000+ miles, high 40s mpg on a run, etc etc. It's not a sports car, but an excellent motorway cruiser. You can't be a badge snob either. OK, it wont be worth anything at the end - but I end up thousands better off. You need to do the calculations for yourself. If you live relatively close to you place of work and don't do intergalactic company miles, it's usually better to take the allowance. |

| Briskodian | Re: Superb as company car?? I think Mike just about sums it up. I bought a 2 year old base model PD130 for about half list price and lease it back to my old employer on a "need to use" basis. It's nearly paid for itself apart from the hard use I give it as a towcar for my own business. If you have the lifespan of the vehicle predicted cost wise and factor in zero value when its worn out, the diesel Superb is a good second hand buy. Given correct maintenance, it's capable of high mileages without major failures. rotodiesel. |

| Re: Superb as company car?? If you change the wheels and have to change the tyres go for Michelin pilot sport, completely chabged my car, they are expensive but match the Superb really well ...only downside is they are useless in snow

| Re: Superb as company car?? I'm sure they were listed as MaxiDot in the brochures when I got my company Superb back in 2004. I believe the Comfort upwards got the MaxiDot. The display was virtually identical to the one in my 2001 Passat if I remember correctly.
