| Superb dilemma I've seen a lovely 52 reg Superb Elegance, with 2.8 V6 and a manual gearbox. The price is similar to the current value of my Octavia vRS. I love the vRS, but the Superb would be cheaper to run and insure, and would have a lot more toys. Still, it's a luxo-barge that wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as my Jabba'd Octy, and it certainly wouldn't handle as well. So what should I do?

| Would it be cheaper to run? I can see the insurance being cheaper, but surely fuel cost would be as high if not higher? I guess the real question is...do you want a fast car or a luxo-barge? ![]() Rob. |

| Skoda Say the Octy RS is their fastest car, but in top speed the Superb 2.8V6 is marginally quicker, by 1mph ![]()

| Having been in a 2.8 Elegance Superb, it was very nice. However even with a very mild drive the fuel economy was appalling (for someone like me). If your considering a Superb then the pd130 or V6 TDI is the best options. Going on your current choice options I would stick with the Octy.

Skoda quote a maximim speed of 235km/h (146mph) and 7.9 secs for 0-100km/h for the Octavia vRS BUT the performance figures are measured without the vehicle being fitted with any equipment such as air conditioning, mud flaps, which affect the performance. ![]()

Oh, and stick with the Octavia. The superb is no sports saloon and the Octavia RS is a pretty comfy cruiser when you're not in the mood for fast driving.

Mrs Witchfinder has also had her say and she (surprisingly) didn't like the idea. Plan cancelled. Thanks all for your suggestions.

| Briskodian | you ask for opinions where the are no superb owners... well, here is my opinion... superb is a luxury car for a bargain price with 1.8t motor on it, you can go and modify it let's say with k04 turbo and reach 270-280 horsepower. thats fast.. the stability on high speeds (with a set of shocks of course) is exeptional because the car is so long the level of comfort, space and elegance cannot be found in any octavia, as well as in many many cars that cost around the superb's money the current model wont change for another five years I do not claim that cheap humble superb is a sporty luxury car, but if you are on a budget it is close enough to it, with the appropriate mods of course.. I have raced many friends of mine driving octy's and everytime they look to me with wide open eyeballs in disbelief ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the above pic is old and I only had Abt program installed..not top speed by all means.. dont think that octy's are faster, cause they aint.. ![]() |

| Ignoring speedo error, the 248kph indicated equates to 154mph! Not bad. That's a nice-looking car, PetRaN. ![]()

| Briskodian | thank you DGW well as you all well know, when the speedo shows 255, it really means 20-25km/h less ![]() it might do real 255 though...i have seen 270km on the thing , I didnt have the camera in hand though.. on september i plan to put a real big turbo.. when the operation is complete, I could post here the whole story... |

| Briskodian | of course I took the picture, rob ![]() huck, not many things.. I was investigating what is best to do with the car, and I also waited to find out if I am happy enough with it to spend more on it, so I havent done much engine stuff until now... eibach/bilstein sprint's (2,5cm lowered) sportec 18's with goodyear F1 gd3, 225/40 front, 255/35 back abt program, N75H valve, 710P div.valve (from rs6), k&n filter ebc green brake pads and dot 5.1 fluids.. I think thats about it I will go and install a nice big fmic and a 76mm exaust some time next week, and from september the car will be fitted with a very nice quick-spooling IHI turbo |
