Superb Edition 100 - ipod connection?

Apologies moderators if you want to move this to the ICE forum, it just seemed more relevant in here for Superb owners.

I’ve got a 55-plate Superb 1.9TDi Auto Edition 100, with standard factory fit Sat Nav and CD Changer.

I’m tempted by the dealer fit Ipod option (for my first generation Ipod Nano), which worked wonderfully in my old Fabia vRS with a Pioneer head unit and Pioneer interface cable.

However, the Skoda dealer fit option (link below) doesn’t explain too much about what functionality you can expect and Simpsons in Preston haven’t fitted one previously so can’t really help?

My concern is that if I have the ipod in the glove box, what will I be able to control via the steering wheel controls and the dashboard Audio controls? I presume I’ll be able to skip forward and back through tracks, and change the volume, but will I be able to do anything at all more advanced and useful… like changing artists or albums? I don’t really want to be delving into the glove box all the time to change things on the ipod itself.

Alternatively, can anyone suggest a more functional interface kit (perhaps one that can also allow me to keep the CD changer and switch between it and the ipod… if such a thing exists?)

Excellent question Stuart - only because I need to know the answer too

Re: Superb Edition 100 - ipod connection?

I've been looking at doing this as well.

The Skoda product looks similar to (or actually is) the Dension Icelink 300. It substitutes for your CD changer (i.e. you lose CD functionality)

If you want to retain the CD multichanger, there is a product called a Dension Icelink 400. It is supposed to retail at about £180. However it is almost impossible to get hold of one (unless anyone knows how?). I've been trying to buy one from a retailer for the last 4 months without success. I then contacted the importers who inform me it will be available 'in a couple of weeks'. Recently this has become 'a couple of days'. However it is still not available. I wonder whether it actually exists?

My understanding of the Dension products is that they display track number and playlists on the satnav unit, but DO NOT display artist and title.

Some questions for other members

A) Does anyone possess one of these products?
B) Are they any good?
C) Does anyone know of an alternative product (that you can actually buy?)

Thanks

Lady Elanore has the Denison Gateway 400 - is this the thing you are looking at?

She has posted a review on it - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/ice-s...ht=icelink+400 - which includes details of the company that supplied and fitted it.

Lady E has an Octy II so I don't know how much will be relevant to the Superb but it might help.

Re: Superb Edition 100 - ipod connection?

Just to provide an update, I've had the Skoda ipod cable fitted (£99 plus labour plus VAT.) Sure enough it comes with the instructions branded Dension ice>Link Plus.

I've set five playlists up on my ipod and these map automatically to the 1-5 buttons on the radio unit. Button 6 should apparently enable me to play the whole ipod (I presume straight from Track 1?) This doesn't seem to happen on mine... but I'll keep experimenting.

The steering wheel controls allow you to skip tracks forward and backwards and adjust the volume. If you swop to a radio station or switch the radio off or turn the engine off it automatically restarts from the track position it was last in!

So far, the only way I've found to select a specific album or song that's not in a playlist appears to be to disconnect the cable and select it manually on the ipod and then put the cable back in! Whenever the connector cable is in place you cannot use any of the buttons on the ipod.

The only other downside appears to be that I've lost the use of the audio through the car speakers with my mobile phone kit... which no-one seems to be able to explain so far! (I don't see why this should be related, but it's a bit boring having one way conversations!?)

To sort out your problem with the phone you need to pull the headunit out and check the plugs/ There are three mini ISO, if the Denison came with the three plugs linked together the dealer tech probably just pulled your three out and put the new three in without thinking. One of those plugs, the green one, is the one for your phone.

Can you confirm whethere or not you have lost the functionality of your CD Changer.....if you had one in the car originally and I assume you have if it is an Edition 100?!?!?

Re: Superb Edition 100 - ipod connection?

Yes, I've lost the CD Changer functionality!

I've not actually seen workings/wiring of the kit as it got delivered through the Skoda parts supply to Simpsons of Preston and they fitted it! The only bit I've seen and got access to is the cable lurking in my glove box!

The plugs I mention look like this -

They are actually three seperate ones that lock together, so if they pulled your three out and then slotted these three in then your phone (In the green one) won't have been connected.

You'll see the rest of the bits here -
