Default Superb. Faults at 120k

I have a superb 04 1.9 130bhp. It is a Taxi and has now clocked 120k. I could smell exhaust fumes in the car. It was checked and it passed a taxi plating test. The smell got worse. The garage changed the cat and fitted a new hose to turbo. The engine started to smoke, and what felt like a misfire, the fumes got worse in the car. It passed the emisions test. showed no fault on the in car or garage computor. They then changed the DPF seemed to improve for 2 days, but now it is just as bad, the tail pipe is very sooty and the fuel consumption urban is down 20%, however on the motorway it will still do 50+ mpg. I hope sombody can advise me please. I don't want to change the car.

How does an '04 1.9 130 PS diesel come to be fitted with a DPF?

Check the engine code on the paper label on the cambelt cover - it should be an AWX for that year. If it's an auto and you're having exhaust fuming problems, check the water cooled EGR.

My '05 model Superb 130 PD (AWX engine) most certainly does not have a DPF - I wouldn't have bought it if it had.

I'd check the pollen filter as well, if it's not fitted properly "the cage it sits in" it could be sucking fumes in, and also if you've had meter/radio equipment fitted check where the wires go through to the engine bay as well, other than that it must be a breather hose is split allowing the gases to escape into the car.

You can see a lot more if you remove the engine cover, it's only 3 screws, when it does it next get someone to rev it to about 3000 rpm and see if there is anything obvious coming from anywhere.

Sorry gave you wrong name.. couldn't remember name(not on bill just listed as valve £127.77 price of part) only that it had 3 letters It's the part that recycles the exhaust gases...The pollen filter was changed 3,000 miles back..have checked the housing been up on ramp..full visual check of exhaust system.. engine cover off...no leaks.. exhaust smokes like like hell.. It appears to be faster now than it ever has been ..and on long motorway type run is ok..Now not sure if smell is diesal or exhaust.. as after couple of hours arround town its uncomfortable for my eyes and throat..... Could it be the turbo?.. .you all seem very competent.. Thanks... any other suggestions please....

This still sounds like an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve fault to me.

A badly fitted EGR will cause an exhaust leak in the engine compartment.
