Superb reversing sensors problem

The reversing sensors are playing up on the Superb (2006 Elegance 140 tdi) just wonder if anyone can point me where to look before I commit it to a dealer.

When you select reverse parked well away from anything you get the usual beep, a second or so later & for about 5 secs it emits a continuous beep, the noise you get when you are very close to something & then nothing. When you back up to something the sensors arent working

I have given the sensors a visual check & they all look clean & un damaged

Any thoughts ??????????

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

It has been wet recently hasn't it.

I'd have a good look at the sensors themselves and the sealing of the wiring behind the bumper. VAG electrics fill me with no confidence whatever - I've just noticed that the connector for the bonnet catch microswitch is mounted upside down on the B5.5/Superb, so it will fill up with water.

VAG will try to tell you these connectors are sealed. I will tell you that gravity always works (although apparently not in Wolfsburg).

There is no cure for stupidity.

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

Sounds exactly like the issue I had on my 55 reg Edition 100. Dealer just replaced the sensors under warranty.

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

Stu,

Mine packed-up on Monday with EXACTLY the same symptom. After connecting VAGCOM, the dealer confirmed the centre-left sensor has failed. They've ordered a new one and will replace it on Monday while I wait. Apparently it's a 20 minute job as there's no need to drop the bumper. This is the first failure I've had in 11 months and 22k. And I really can't believe there won't be a bit of leeway on the warranty bit either - just hassle them.

Cheers... Rob

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

They did drop the bumper on mine, though I've no idea if it was the whole lot or just one sensor.

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

Turn ignition on only but obviously not start the car.

Put the car into reverse gear.

Go to the rear of the car and place your ear to each sensor. You will hear a ticking sound.

The one that isnt ticking is the broken one.

Skoda quoted me £80 quid for 1 sensor so i did,t bother.

I removed the fuse instead which stopped that bloody noise

Just tried - no "ticking" from any of them, but I know only one has failed!

Re: Superb reversing sensors problem

Went to the dealer - took them 11 minutes to change the sensor. All working OK.
