V-Power Trials

Ok, last week 60 litres of it lasted me 415 miles, generally on normal derv I get 340-370 miles from a full tank, power is up in the 1500-3000 revs band, noticeably less pedal required to cruise up to 30-40mph, doing more testing this week and will let you know how it goes, 1st impressions say the 1.9 TDi suits the higher octane fuel.

Plus my girls wanted the Ferrari's, only two more to get

Cetane, not octane in diesel and it can only have the maximum cetane allowed in the same BS standard that covers normal diesel. IIRC the main difference is in the detergents? Trouble is, this stuff's touching £1.20 a litre now. I didn't really notice much difference with several tanks of V-Power / BP Ultimate over normal in my Octy II PD105. I did however used to notice a marked difference in my Megane.

My Octy hates V Power it loses all power but loves BP Ultimate and has the reverse effect.

Funny thing there, I used BP in a V6 omega and it made no difference at all, neither did Shell tbh, so I've always looked at it as a market con, but as I have two kids who love cars I wanted to get the Ferrari's for them so I thought what the hell and went for it, well in the 1.9 TDi it really has made a leap, mpg is up by 5mpg, zorts is cleaner, and power bands more smooth and responsive, I think this is where the mpg is coming from cos I don't need so much pedal to get up to speed.

Re: V-Power Trials

I've noticed the same in my Merc. The mileage you're getting is low, and I thought my Merc was appalling. I get about 400ish with normal derv on 60 litres and 425 with V Power, but it's just been serviced so will test again when I fill up next.

Irrelevant post in the Superb section from me I guess, but your mpg is low :-)

Re: V-Power Trials

Superbia - do you do lots of very short runs / in town stop start driving as ytour fuel consumption seems very high. Not sure what I get on average, but its over 500 miles to a tank. I do a seven mile trip to work five days / week, which takes 25 mins - 15 mins of this is in stop start traffic. wife uses it in evening to do a 3 mile run to work 4 nights week and it does about six other short in town runs / week. I do about one 200 mile trip week on top. Avg mpg is about 43 overall on the trip computer. On long runs I get 55 MPG.

Re: V-Power Trials

I must agree - I think Superbia's mpg is a little low. 90% of my driving is done on a 12 mile each way rush hour commute (that takes at least 40 mins) and my last tankful gave me 415 miles from (I think) 59 litres. And I'm not exactly light-footed either.

Na, I'm a cabbie, lots of stop start moving up ranks etc, plus shes an auto, I'm quite impressed with the figures she returns tbh given the type of car it is, I had a Vectra loaner while I was out looking and on the motorway it was very good, around town it dropped off to 23-25mpg, lowest the Superb has given is 26, and on average it's 28 overall, but last week it was 32, I'll have a comparison this week when I juice up again.

Re: V-Power Trials

Well this weeks results are as follows, I've put 60 litres in this week, trip has recorded 476 miles, gauge is slightly below the mark it was on last week, so I'm estimating my mpg to be 30-32 this week, so it's still an extra 40-60 miles extra than usual, when the car offer runs out I'll full tank test it and get exact figures.

p.s got the full set of Ferarri's now, the nippers are well pleased

I can only dream of getting 476 miles. Maybe I need a few tank fulls of the V-Power then.

Re: V-Power Trials

419 on 54 litres of Shell diesel extra works out at 35mpg by my calculations.

Just over 39mpg for you Gizmo.

Re: V-Power Trials

Cheers MK4 Turbo, i hadn't clocked the MPG this time.
This tankful was all short journeys (3-4 miles) with no motorway at all, hence the poor MPG.
I normally average 48mpg (trip, not actual) with mixed driving.

Do you have the 1.9 PD 130? Hopefully my Dad will get something similar or a bit more as he does some long journeys.

Re: V-Power Trials

Now is the time to try it if you are curious especially if you have kids, a tank of it costs £4 more but you get two models for this, best to do it in two purchases incase the attendant pulls the one per visit routine, these are worth £2 each to buy.

Now if like me you use a lot anyway see it this way, so far my car has gone from returning 350 miles a tank to 415 miles a tank, so although I pay an extra £4 I use two gallons less, which equates to £10.50, so I'm getting £4 of free models, saving £6.50 at the pump by using less, and getting my engine cleaned 100% of the time.

If I was a long distance user I think I'd be getting somewhere around 650 miles a tank, but as my use is 80% stop start urban I think the figures are doing the talking right now.

Ah an auto box. Didn't spot that before. Makes your mpg figures a lot more respectable then

Re: V-Power Trials

I have had 1.5 tanks of this now and I must say I prefer BP Ultimate as it is a bit smoother.

I have found variation in fuels. worst is Texaco. Its like I have filled it up with coal! Total is very good, just a bit better is the Shell V-Power and best is BP Ultimate. I sometimes stick in a bit of Millers Sport - this makes it ultra smooth.

Re: V-Power Trials

You must fill up out of town Chris, locally the two Texaco stations are absolute thieves, £1.20 & £1.18 a litre for ordinary, then the two BP stations £1.15 a litre for ordinary again, I use Shell's stations, £1.12 for ordinary and £1.18 for V-Purr, the common factor with the expensive ones are they are run by Indian's.
