Default VAG seat airbags

Can anyone shed a bit of light on the colour codes for the seat airbags

Superb:
Brown earth?
Green - ??
Yellow - ??

Audi:
Black - earth?
Blue - power to activate airbag??

Also if the ignition is turned on with an airbag disconnected, will the airbag light have to be turned off with VAG-COM one the plug has been reconnected??

Yes you'll get a code. If you are messing with airbags disconnect the battery.

Looking at the CFD's I have it says -

2004 On without Airbag Deact Switch
Passenger Side Airbag Plug T3a under the seat -

Pin 3 Brown - Earth Connection
Pin 2 Blue - Airbag Control Unit Plug T75a Pin27
Pin 1 Black - Airbag Control Unit Plug T75a Pin28

Driver Side Airbag Plug T3b under the seat -

Pin 3 Brown - Earth Connection
Pin 2 Blue - Airbag Control Unit Plug T75a Pin30
Pin 1 Black - Airbag Control Unit Plug T75a Pin29

Dont mess with them and the battery connected, one wrong move and you could deploy the airbag destroying your seat in the process.

mmmmm, interesting...........

My Superb is a March 2004, without deact switch, yet the wires are Brown, Green & Yellow!

Would the Blue & Black (or Green & Yellow in my case) need to be joined together if i was to put in an Audi seat with just two airbag wires, or would this just not be compatible?

I am fully aware of the dangers of messing about with them with the battery connected - not recommended at all, thanks anyway.

I couldn't advise you either way mate to be honest. In the diagram the Blue and Black go to opposite sides of the ignitor.

The system will need to earthed to something.

I would suggest asking this question on an audi forum, you really need to know what wire does what before you can match that to skodas wiring.

It might be that the airbags aren't compatible. What Audi seats are they?

They are a 2002 A6

Thinking out loud - where does the earth go from the car side of the plug, is it straight to earth, or is it switched (in other words when the vehicle has been in a crash its the switched earth circuit that is completed, blowing the bag??

Are you sure the seats have Airbags and that you aren't confusing them with Seatbelt Pre Tensioners?

Come to that does your Superb have side Airbags?

Without knowing what a seatbelt pre tensioner looks like! I can defiantly say yes to both, mine is an 2004 with cloth.
Both the Superb and A6 seats have the "airbag" badge stitched onto the seats (top edge, door side)

Oh, and they are both the yellow plugs

When you have a crash as well as the airbag igniting, a charge in the seatbelt pretensioner will ignite and pull the setbelt tight across your chest.

These are often connected under the seat as well.

Airbags etc are normally yellow plugs and have double locking.

I think if you were to post the question in the Ask a Tech forum somone may well offer to provide you with the superb CFD's for the airbag system.

Could the earth be for the pretensioner? (but is same plug as airbag)
I pretty sure on my MK1 Octy there were only two wires on the airbag plug.

Does anyone know of some on line wiring diagrams for the VAG range?
(the airbag wiring diagram is not in the Octavia Haynes manual

For others information, the airbags on the A6 seats are fully compatible with the Superb
(Brown earth wire on the Superb is left disconnected)
