vibration through steering wheel

Just had new front tyres fitted and straight away had vibration through steering wheel at Motorway speeds, took it back and had balancing checked and was told it was ok, but the rears might need doing, why would the rears need doing now ?, car was ok before new tyres were fitted !.....Superb has now done 76k and was wondering if anything else could give me the vibration ?.....look forward to any ideas...thanks

Re: vibration through steering wheel

For the record, I have had this myself when I had one fitted at not my normal place but I can tell you as far as I know and I am not a tyre expert if wobble comes from steering wheel it's the front if it comes from the car, then it is the back wheels (seat of the pants feeling the back ones.
Hope this helps go give them some stick.

Re: vibration through steering wheel

Had mine rebalanced a few weeks ago.

Person who did it said they were miles out and even with the wear from new they shouldnt be this far out.

A pain i know, but try getting them rebalanced elsewhere.

Re: vibration through steering wheel

Thanks for the replys people, looks like its the front wheels then, this is what happens when you dont go to your usual place for new tyres !....although this is th least of my problems, as some idiot has decided to screwdriver my lock, car was deadlocked and said "idiot" was unable to get in, still made a right mess.

Re: vibration through steering wheel

Places who can properly balance wheels seem few and far between, so if it's been back there and they still can't do them, take it elsewhere!

Re: vibration through steering wheel

Just say, "Can i watch, ive often wondered how it works".

The screen says it all, but again it depends on if its been calibrated correctly.

Re: vibration through steering wheel

I've had same problem when new fronts were fitted to a previous car at a well-known national tyre outfit. They used clip-on weights on the outer edge of the alloys and, after 3 attempts to correct it basically told me to bog off and get the suspension checked. Went to another tyre specialist who nearly died laughing and even guessed, correctly, where the tyres had been fitted. He took off the clip-ons, showed me where the factory adhesives weights had been on the inner rim, re-balanced and fitted properly positioned adhesive weights. End of problem. Recently had two new fron't fitted to the Fabia vRS and, as we now live 130 miles from my previous guy, I had to use a loical outfit. Asked the guy where and what kind of weights they would use and he looked at me as though I was stupid............adhesives just like the factory do; unless I had a better idea. Top man, top job, happy bunny. May be best to cut your losses and go to a specialist to get it done properly - unless you feel like continuing the grief.
