What is the metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf?

Just a quickie, on my superb ed100 there is an metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf (on the righthand side when opening the boot). Is it the amplifier for the HU (in which case can it be replaced) or a DSP unit or anything else for that matter?

Cheers,

JB

Its the DSP Nokia Decoder / Amplifier. It cannot be replaced, its an integral part of the system.
Funny enough, DSP is a £1500 option on VW/Audi but it cam free as an UNLISTED option on the Edition 100, even though its not offered on UK superbs as an extra.

Re: What is the metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf?

If he has the box on his 53 plate elegance, then I have no idea how it got there. It was only specc'ed to the Edition 100 that came out 2 years later. Was your dads an import?

This may answer the last 2 posts....you should have dsp options in your head unit. If its sat nav then you will see "pop rock jazz, driver dynamic sound selection etc). If you dont have sat nav, then there is a seperate control box.

If you claim to have the amp on the 53.....investigate the head unit for clues, this could be the first of its kind! It was never an option you could buy in the UK.

Re: What is the metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf?

if this is like the DSP they fitted to mk4 golfs as an option, i'd give it a miss: great if you want to listen to your music through a "cathedral" filter etc (?) but it doesn't actually improve your listening experience...

Re: What is the metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf?

I've been playing with the dsp options for a while today and I wouldn't make much effort to fit one after market... music does sound pretty good through the "rock" setting but if you are listening to radio, the dj's sound like they are in a cathedral as lw said.

That said I am assuming that the standard sound (i.e. dsp menu set to "linear") is the same as the sound from a head unit with no DSP.

Cheers,

Jim

Not impossible a lot of re-cabling/ different loom as speakers are fed from unit in boot and requires o/p feeds from head unit and can bus. Its not just the dsp unit the DSP OE fitment has different speakers fitted also.

Re: What is the metal box attached to the underside of the parcel shelf?

...plus the box outputs 4x70 watts.

As mentioned above, the car has uprated loud speakers. Indeed its an expensive option (on VW and Audi), and probably not worth the cost, but theres no denying that the sound is awesome. You can have it sooooo loud, with no noise distortion!

Great for the summer!
