Wind noise from nearside front window

Hi All,

My 54 reg 1.9 Comfort superb has started to make *the* most annoying whistle from the nearside window area recently. It starts at 50-55mph and doesnt go away until the naughty side of 85 (or the road noise overrides it).

It does go away if I open the window by about an inch or so, but then at this time of year, that's not always practical.

I've checked things like the mirror surround (in case of cracks), the seals around the window, and ensured that there are no bits of bodywork sticking out that shouldnt be etc.

Anyone got any thoughts on this as it's driving me mad...

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

I am sure you have checked this already but the only time I had anything similar it was a chip in the top of the door glass which had been caused by a bit of grit that was still jammed in the rubber where the window sits in it (at the top of the door frame).

I know this might sound daft but i thought i had the same problem but realised when i have the blower up the screen at full the air blows around the door window seel at the top of the glass causing a wind type noise, turned the blower down and the noise went away, might be worth checking, drove me bloody crazy!

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

Heh, thanks for that, but only this morning I turned the blowers up/down full and it made no difference.. apart from the fact that I could hear the blowers!

I checked the door seal again today, looking in particular at the groove where the window sits and seals, but again, there's nothing there - all feels as it should.

I'm lost for my next step now - feel a bit daft going to a garage for it, but maybe that's what I gotta do.

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

My car does this starting at about 70mph.

My mate's dad has a passat and it does exactly the same thing!

Must be an aerodynamic design fault!

Yoy might want to check the rubber that the window glass closes to. In mine it was the co drivers side and if i held my finger upon the top corner (just above your head) i realised that the wind noise stopped. You need to take it to a dealer and change the rubber fitment around the door.

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

had the same on first superb - and in my second from the rear passenger door, front and rear did not alter on new seal but dealer realigned windows/doors on both occasions and cured it, suspect its a right carry on coz u could make it worse but I have always found Silbury Skoda excellent at making the effort (no i do not work for them!}

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

Hi I have a skoda superb 53 plate and my pass side window is making the same whistiling noise, I noticed that if you pull the seal whilist driving the noise increases or subsides so this noise is definatley the seal in my case. (best done on a straight road as you will be at speed)
I have adjusted the door myself easy to do just req a star drive tool to undo the door catch. On the catch plate you will notice alignment markers so you can make tiny adjustments to re-align the door as required. My door needed to be brought in closer and hey presto no annoying noise anymore. Alot chaeper than a dealer and only took 5 miniutes out of my life he he.
However be warned make sure you make a note of the marker positions before you tinker with it as you could make matters worse ie door not closing correctly if all else fails put it back to where you started from.

Re: Wind noise from nearside front window

Door seal maybe?
Adjust the door striker so the door closes more tighter to the body work.
Good luck.
