Xenons - How long should they last, and how much to replace?

Bulb in one of mine went this morning - another trip to the dealers for me.

How long do they typically last? I get the feeling this won't be cheap to replace.

Never had one go, it might not be the bulb, have you checked the fuses etc
I had to replace a couple after the car got shortened !! if it is a bulb prepare your credit card for a pounding

I remember seeing in an old thread that they are in the region of £100, although just had word that Osram do a far cheaper replacement (Mines just gone too

)
My cars coming up 6 yrs old
I've been told in another thread to check the ballast before changing the bulb.

The idea behind Xenon is that the bulb should last pretty much twice as long as Halogen bulbs and in some cases as long as the vehicle, however with most Xenon lamps this is a service only lamp meaning that if you have any problems then you have to take it to the dealers to be fixed as without removing the front bumper you won't be able to get at the headlamp.

I work for the company that manufacture the Superb headlamps so sourcing spare parts is not a problem and fitment is just as easy but it may well not be the bulb but I am sure that your dealer will tell you the failure mode.......

after someone reversed into my superb i had to have a replacement unit cost £460 due apparently to high cost of xenon bulb i asked for the old unit back but it is sans bulbs does anyone know if these replacement units do in fact come complete with bulbs? if they don't then these units are astronomical

I have just replaced 2 on the Octy after an accident, They were list about 450 each with bulbs another 100

I queried Xenons at the dealer a few weeks back, Each bulb was quoted at around £99 but are supposed to more or less last the lifetime of the car.

If they are supposed to last the life of the car would that mean they are covered under warranty?

When these cars are older, a stone chip in one of the headlights would write the car off!!

Plenty of cheap good make xenons (all bulbs) for next to nothing on ebay!!!

HIDS4U Ltd, Leeds, UK for all HID and Xenon lighting kits and conversions

I bought some from there, very cheap compared to the dealers!

Bulb (can't remember what the description was, but it included "gas"!) turned out to be £136 for the part alone, plus labour to fit. I would have thought that these should be covered under warranty as they're supposed to last a lot longer than normal bulbs if not the life of the car.

I was very shocked to discover that this is covered under warranty, so won't cost me a penny!
