freeview channel listings

Bit stuck.... I'm using a freeview stick for my PC (Pinnacle) - the EPG lists programmes for Virgin 1 for a 24 hour period. However, I can only watch programmes after 18:00. Is there a reason for this?

Re: freeview channel listings

point taken, but I'm curious why the EPG (and yahoo tv listings) shows programmes at an earlier time: Virgin 1 Listings | Wednesday 3 September 2008 - Yahoo! TV UK

some channels have restricted transmission times depending on where you are

Go to this site where you can select purely freeview channels to see what's listed

Virgin1 is a 24hr station, but only on sky/virgin media so thats why it has epg data for the whole day. To save duplication they transmit the same EPG to both freeview and sky.

You will find other channels like this, eg. UKTV History, where they broadcast upto 6pm.

That answers my question. Not going down the sky route as I'm loathe to pay for something I'll only use a small percentage of. And I'm happy to wait 6 months or so to watch the next series of CSi, Greys Anatomy etc.

They are good aren't they? Why fork out for a hard disk recorder and dvd writer when you can use your PC. I've been able to pause and rewind live tv long before sky and virgin were harking on about it!!
Do you use the supplied antenna or a roof one? I tried the supplied antenna which was lousy, but with the roof antenna the picture quality is superb.

Re: freeview channel listings

I use the supplied antenna when the laptop is upstairs so it doesnt disturb anyone watching the TV downstairs but otherwise I plug in the roof aerial if I want to record BTCC races.

i've got a Freecom DVB-T and just use the supplied mini aerial. usually works quite good on the normal terrestrial (sp.) channels if you can find something metal to stick it to, found the suction cup add-on ineffective. other channels are hit and miss but can get them with fine tuning, changing the angle/position/orientation of aerial.

i've used it at work and stick it to side of a radiator near a window and gets a good signal, not so at home. like you say, roof aerial is perfect when i tested but i can't use it myself.

what does work however, is if i hold it against my head, amplifies the signal perfectly on any channel plenty of room in there!
makes your arm ache though if you're watching the football, thankfully i can usually find a bookcase screw, photo frame etc. to get a signal unless the weather ain't to clever and then there ain't nothing else you can do.

wouldn't be without though as there always someone in our house who wants to watch something else whilst recording another channel!

the programmes detect UK Gold and Eurosport as well, although you can't get a picture, but they're listed as separate channels. not tried yet but i'll have to check as i think UK History is the same Freq. as Dave don't know if i can get that?

Re: freeview channel listings

Think UK History, Eurosport and UK Gold are all out as far as freeview is concerned. Can get them on top-up tv though I think. I've got tuning codes for BBCi if anyone's interested (you have to tune them all to different channels as don't have a red interactive button with the USB tuners). Also, anyone got teletext working on theirs? The only limitation is you can't record another programme whilst watching something else.....has anyone tried getting a 2nd USB tuner to see if both can run at once on the same PC?
