I have had this mod on a 06 golf pd since noveber. But catch the vapour in a can and re-route the air back to the air intake pipe.

I took is off today and got about a cup of water from it...I was gobsmacked by the amount in the small time frame.

Have done it to my Furby now, and run it for a tank.

Venting like an elephant turns out to be a top cheap mod.
Better mpg (in the uk, about 16-19c and dryish).
I havent got a catch tank, and have managed to get an almost oem look!
Will post pic tomorrow.
HTH, Dave.

Been running mine for quite a long time now. No obvious effects, but I'm that no re-circ is going on. Nice clean air going in all the time.

Do you think this mod stops the egr clogging (because thats the sludge build up soot exhaust and water vapour from crankcase). Or do you think it just reduces the build up.

Having scraped the goo out of the intake manifold myself - it's really nasty thick sticky tar-like stuff being formed in there. It seems you need both components (carbon + oil) to clog things up.
Dry carbon soot shouldn't stick as badly and would burn off pretty easily I'd imagine.

Yeah thats my thoery as well.....

This way your not venting to atmostphere and the oil deposits being heavier than air collect in the bottom of the tank which can be emptiied periodically.

Ive just thought of another problem with doing this...

If you dont empty it, your engine is going to be sucking hard on liquid oil/water!! never good!
Not worth the risk. Ive just let mine vent to air.
Havent seen oil in the yard yet either, so thats never bad.

Very true, but how hard it it to empty it, do it when you check your oil.

I know what your saying, but hydrolic locking you car isnt worth it.

Just let it vent to air i would. (and have).

On mine, the breather hose has been taken off complete, and replaced with said "rubber pipe" to make the elephant trunk. Completely reversabe if you really want to (not that I ever will )

Well my plan is to have everything ready made indoors then just go out, whip the old one off and stick the mod in place.

I've assigned my mechanic to find me one

Elephant hose mod does not cause CEL. You need pipe with the same i.d. as the breather pipe nipple on top of the cam cover - I would guesstimate circa 10-12mm, allowing for stretch. I used some pipe usually used for water. I think it took around 2 feet of pipe for me, maybe a bit more - enough to get down to the subframe anyway.
