Re: £30 Airfield Training Day @ North Weald Nr Harlow 22nd September!

What an excellent day. Nice to put more faces to names as well. The Skoda brigade were making a good impression on the Lotus drivers from the comments I heard, one or two quite surprised to be having difficulty matching the lap times of diesel hatchbacks. The rain made it a bit drab, but also served as a leveller on the track where the faster pilots of Scoobies, Lotuses, a Toyota and of course a whole load of Skodas condensed lap times into a range between 1m13s and 1m15s!

Definately going to get myself booked on one of the 4 car days, but could also be good to try and arrange a Skoda day.

Chris

PS Did anybody see the guy in the white MX5 Turbo do a whole lap without spinning?

Re: £30 Airfield Training Day @ North Weald Nr Harlow 22nd September!

I agree - the morning started off pretty dull - with getting traction nigh on impossible...

But after lunch with the 3 circuits - it was bloody brilliant!

Again - good company. A great way to spend £30 imho...

Beating the majority of elises etc with a modest diesel hatchback was quite hilarious too... he he. Dare I say though that had it been dry - the outcome would have been very different. However - I was disappointed by the performance of the Imprezas...

Have to say I was surprised at the Scoobies lack of a big advantage in the wet conditions. Certainly on the track, traction was a major issue out of all the corners. Mentioning no names, I listened to someone having wheelspin in 4th on the way down to the high speed bend Even the '2 with its LSD was having trouble in second on the straights in second, worse still on the faster bends, although it did prove to be very progressive and catchable in power oversteer around 50 / 60 mph, which was nice.

Yes. Wheelspinning in 4th gear, was ridiculous. The clock would spin from 30-70 mph, in 00000.1 second.

Re: £30 Airfield Training Day @ North Weald Nr Harlow 22nd September!

I got home a bit after midnight.

Had to pull over a couple of times on the way home, I don't ever want to be on the M25 again.

What was almost as bad was Reading Services was like a cattle market due to Nikki off Big Brother was there. She was in the female toilets and it was hard to move for people trying to get autographs. How very sad.

Had a great day, even if it does cost me at tyre. Thanks Nick for changing that one for me. Deffinatley worth the £30. Skidding into cones was great need to domore of that .

See you all later

Re: £30 Airfield Training Day @ North Weald Nr Harlow 22nd September!

Hi guys
I was in the black scoobie. I was well impressed with some of the times you guys were putting in. I was struggling to put power on the circuits in the afternoon. the one with the long straight was a nightmare was scrabbling for grip all the way down. Only done 2 runs on that done a 59 then a 58. prob would have went quicker but went down for a couple more runs ont he slalom. Managed a 44 on my last run on there. had done a 44.7 in the morn with a instructor beside me so was happy with that time solo. Not sure about you guys but I learnt a lot about my car and the way I drive. Need to do a few tweaks to the suspension and those times wil be a lot quicker.
Don`t suppose anyone got any pics of my in action???
Once again well impressed guys.

I couldn't manage a lap without spinning either, my best lap was 1:21 with one spin and lots of wheel spin / sliding.

I did let Andy have a spin in mine, that was a great experience, power sliding round the figure of 8, he still spun on the same corner I had trouble with though! Put down to a sh!te set of tyers (rears at least!), which I attempted from that point on to wear out as much as possible!

People were taking bets on how many times I'd spin!

Yesterday was the first time I've managed to spin a car, it has boosted my confidence loads as I now know what happens!

I still enjoyed the day, and will definatley have another go, or attend the 4 car day!

Think I would have done better in the Fabia but I don't think I would have had so much fun

Just take that tyre round the small tyre places E-E, someone will repair it for you, as we said.

Shame I never got to come and meet you and possibly get a ride in the '68, to compare it with the '28. I had considered bringing it, but am glad I didn't

I timed Andys lap in your car and he was around 1:20, so pretty tidy driving then. Got to say I liked his style particualrly the drift past the first turn and down to the second. I did try and copy it a couple of times, but was a bit less sideways (well it felt less inside the car). Just relieved to hear you made it home in one piece looking at that oversteer!

He he... 4th gear wheelspin was hilarious - that straight really was impossible to get any power down on...

I was dead impressed with how my wee Furby held its own against much more exotic machinery! The whole day was a right hoot.

I have a couple of pics, but nothing exciting. Will upload when I can be arsed... lol.

My best on that circuit with the long strait was a dead 1:00. Traction was impossible, as was trying to brake at the bend on the way back down!

I got 43s on the slalom on 2 separate runs though!!!! He he.

yeah also have to excuse my early exit, after arriving late and my lack of grip on the high speed cornering i was very low on diesel and also had a annoying problem with my wipers, but was nice to meet everyone who attended.

It was a good experience to be a passenger in it while he drifted round! But he did manage to spin it on his first attempt!

Under road conditions the tyres perform well, wet or dry, my GF was a bit worried about it most of the way home though.......

I will be getting new tyres before my next track day but I'm not planning to do any more this year.... but you never know....

I came over to watch and time. Most entertaining!

I can understand her concern!

I reckon the Avons would be OK in the dry, but they do have a reputation for being iffy in the wet anyway.

The Avons were fine in the Dry at Snetterton the week before so I have complete faith in them in the dry, I've never had a problem with them in the wet before under road conditions and I'm sure I won't (I don't use it too often in the wet anyway!) Friday has just taught me to be a bit cautious with them. I think I will deffinatley change them before doing any further Track Days etc, although Andy said he would teach me how to drive round the problem if I did one of the full days with him which sounded like it could be fun!

The cars tucked away in the garage now as it has exceeded its annual mileage, and the insurance isn't due for anoth
