Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

Hi all,
A little update...

Yesterday Lyn and I spent the day trying ('trying' being the keyword here) to sort out a few of the finer details for the upcoming Rolling Road Day. Firstly we were trying to find a suitable location(s) to meet so we can convoy to PowerStation and secondly we were trying to find a good pub that was both local to PowerStation and had a large car park. It didn't go as smoothly as we'd hoped...

In terms of convoying up to PowerStation I think it is likely we'll have to do it in two groups (unless you want to head straight to PowerStation yourself and meet us there). We envisage one group travelling up the M5 from the southwest area (perhaps meeting at Michael Wood Services) and the other group heading up from South Wales towards Ross-on-Wye and the M50 (then cutting across to Tewkesbury). We will confirm this shortly... the main issue here is roadworks for those of us travelling from South Wales - obviously we don't want to get caught in them!

In terms of a meal afterwards we looked for a pub local to PowerStation and managed to find one or two. The problem is that they all shut or stopped serving food at 2-3pm and - due to the large group - it may be the case we wouldn't get there in time. One of the pubs agreed to stay open provided we could guarantee 20+ food orders... and we are still waiting to hear back from the other pub. This obviously leaves things up in the air as we cannot guarantee 20+ food orders. A quick show of hands as to who'd be interested in a meal afterwards would be appreciated.

So that people who were interested in a meal didn't have to travel out of their way to a pub we also found a Toby Carvery open all day but sadly it was in the middle of major roadworks (which won't be gone come the RR Day) and we got stuck in traffic jams for some time. Not a success.

Out of interest, if anybody looking to travel from the southwest up the M5 is interested in gathering the troops at, say, Michael Wood services then please shout up. Obviously Lyn and I will be bringing the South Wales contingent so any help from the England side would be apreciated.

Admittedly it will be an early start as PowerStation will be looking to start at 9am. However, we ideally need to be there for 8:30am to get everything ready to go. Don't worry, you can always take a lie-in the next day...

As mentioned either Lyn or I will confirm the details shortly, and welcome your feedback on travelling/convoy preferences and/or potential meal arrangements.

Best wishes,
grumpy (on behalf of Andy and Lynda / Rebel Motorsport Club)
p.s. Many thanks to those of you who have completed the online information sheet.

Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

Just a quick note to those who are running on the day...
You will be required to read and sign one of the below forms before putting your car on the rollers. But obviously the details will be your own...

Cheers,

Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

Right - finally Lyn and I have been able to finalise a few details so please take a moment and have a quick read of the Events page for the RR Day:

Click here to view the details.

The most important information is towards the bottom of the page - outlining meeting points, convoy details and food/meal arrangements (for those who are interesetd in grabbing a meal afterwards. Incidentally, the pub mentioned offers meals from around the £6.95 mark upwards - very reasonable).

Many thanks for the support, feedback and prompt payments. This should hopefully be a good day!

p.s. Those who might be interested in coming along... there are 6 places left so be quick if you want to run your car on the rollers...

Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

All of a sudden we have had a lot of interest... which makes things difficult as there are not many places left! At the time of writing there are 6 places left and 9 people interested in those places.

Quite simple, the first 6 people who get their deposits in and sorted will get those places. So - if you are interested - please don't delay!

On a side note (due to the large attendance) we would ask that people who are *not* running on the rollers not to simply turn up and expect to watch. We aren't killjoys or trying to be awkward but quite simply there isn't the room and it's only fair that those who have paid and who are participating get priority.

You'd be welcome to join us for the short drive to the pub for a meal afterwards if you wish!

Many thanks,
Andy and Lyn

Ok - that's it I'm afraid guys. All places now filled and all 35 payments received.

In the next day or so I'll post up the car list so you can see what will be going on the rollers...

Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

Further details regarding the event...

Due to an unexpected influx of money recently (deposited mainly in £20 and/or £35 batches!) Rebel Motorsport Club is happy to bring you this latest post from their new headquarters in the Aegean Sea...

Competition

Joking aside, we'd just like to say thanks again for your support and to give you details of a little competition that will be running on the day. Basically, PowerStation have given us a free run so we thought we'd offer the free run as a prize. This is how it will work...

If you would like to take part (and you are obviously running your car!) then all you need to do is provide us with a number. This number will be your guess as to the total horsepower of all the cars running on the day (we are talking clutch/flywheel power here). After the day has completed I will request all the results from PowerStation and add them up to determine the total. The person with the nearest guess will have their £35 refunded within a day or two after the Event. Once chosen, a particular number cannot be chosen again. In the result of two people being within the same distance of the result, the person closest under the actual total figure will be declared the winner.

For example - the total is 2500bhp.
Mrs X - guesses 2495
Mr Y - guesses 2505

Both are within 5bhp but Mrs X is declared the winner for being closest under the total figure.

("Yes, Lyn... I know that women are always right..." )

Car List

Here's a list of known cars running on the day... but no names/details because we're mean like that.

Cars Running
  • Audi A3
  • Honda Civic Type-R (EP3)
  • Honda Civic Type-R (EP3)
  • Honda Civic Type-R (EP3)

The list contains both standard and modified cars so this should be an excellent day!

Post-event Meal

A nearby pub has kindly offered to stay open to receive those who fancy a meal after the event. Please check the Event page for more details (towards the bottom of the page). On the day we will ask who's interested in a meal afterwards and if sufficient people say 'yes' then we'll take the short trip and enjoy a cooked meal. If we don't get the numbers then it won't happen. In terms of numbers we are looking for 8+ people to make it worthwhile for the pub and chef to hang around on our behalf! Just to give some indication as to what they offer...

A large selection of main courses all priced at either £6.95 or £7.95, including:

- Homemade steak and ale pie
- Tender loin of pork with orange and cinnamon sauce
- Breast of chicken with Tewkesbury mustard
- Fresh salmon in garlic and lemon butter
- Gloucester old spot gammon and egg
- Boozy beef casserole (not for the drivers, eh?)
- Thai chicken curry
- Sausages and mash
- Scampi and chips with salad
- Homemade shepherds pie
- Vegetarian chilli

...all served with veggie selection, chips, mash rice and/or salad. There are also blackboards listing specials with fresh fish, local steaks, and more.

I'm sure you'll agree it's very reasonable and we'd very much welcome anyone to hang around and join us for a meal afterwards.

Many thanks,
Andy and Lynda

Re: Rolling Road Day @ Powerstation 8th November 2008

Hi all,

Wow - great day folks! I don't know where to start really...

Firstly, I'd just like to thank the members of VAGOwners, SeatCupra, Briskoda, CivicType-R Owners, SouthWestCivics and Rebel for their fantastic support today. As cliched as it sounds it really was you guys that made the day. It wouldn't have been the same had it been just Andy and myself...

Right from the off you made this a pleasure to organise - we can only thank you for your prompt payments of deposits, the PM's, the emails and suchlike. It really made our job that much easier and we are grateful. Additionally, despite the rather early start time, we'd also like to extend our thanks for the spot-on timekeeping. Again appreciated and we were only let down at the very last when the owner of PowerStation turned up late. D'oh!

To see so many varied and fantastic cars was a real pleasure; all too often a rolling road day is only for a particular marque of car so the variety on show today was refreshing and entertaining. There were some excellent results too and I hope that you were happy with what your cars achieved or, if not, you weren't to disappointed. There's always next time...

We'd also like to say how enjoyable it was for us today seeing so many new people and how polite and chatty everybody was. Considering many of us were strangers at the start of the day I think a few new friendships and acquaintances have been made during the day.

This could go on for a long time to I'll wrap it up here by saying a final few words. Many thanks to PowerStation for their professional attitude and for hosting us again today, thanks to the burger/breakfast van for turning up and massive thanks to the pub staying open especially for us for the post-event meal. I think it's safe to say it worked out well.

Final words... THANK YOU!
Hope we see you guys again soon.
Safe driving.

Best wishes,
Andy and Lynda
Rebel Motorsport Club

Information:

The photos will be up asap (but might take a couple of days as I'm away for a day or two!) There's also some footage that I'll look to get processed asap too - although this may take a little while longer.

We also have everyones dyno graph in PDF format so, if you'd like a copy, please drop an email to us at:

Please include your car registration just so we can quickly locate and return the relevant graph!

Finally, we'll be adding up the total bhp in the next day or so and we'll announce the winner of the competition who will be refunded their £35 payment.

Thank you!
