  3. Big thanks to szatyo for sharing this experience. My Mother-in-law had exactly the same symptoms after taking her 2012 Roomster for a simple oil change service. The gob****es at the local garage replaced the oil pump, oil pump chain, and oil pressure sensor trying to hunt down the issue....and presented her with a bill of more than £700. Then they told her that this engine only has an expected life of 80,000 KM - and she needed a replacement. After 15 mins. of Google searching I found this post. Went up to the old folks place at the weekend...removed the oil filter...and there, clear as day, was the old o-ring. It took me literally 10 minutes to fix the issue. Massive brownie points earned, smiles all around. Winner!!

  7. Gizmo modified my car when I was in the UK last week, including activating the Audi throttle response and an accompanying VCDS option which apparently optimises this (apologies, I forget the name of it). There seems to be a variety of opinion on the benefits of this mod, so I thought I would add my two penn'orth for anyone thinking of doing it. As you can see from my profile, I have a 150 DSG. IMHO the mod makes a significant difference to this engine/transmission. I still occasionally notice a little lag, but it doesn't really bother me. The main reason I wanted the mod was for cornering (there are a lot of windy roads around here). Prior to the mod, even if I started to put pressure on the accelerator before entering a corner (obviously not advisable normally) it wouldn't usually kick in until well after exiting the bend, thereby losing some traction. Now it behaves more or less how my old manual used to behave. I ruled out getting a Pedal Box due to our French insurer. I understand that this is even better. However, I'm very happy with the Audi throttle and I'm not sure I would bother with the Pedal Box even if insurance was not an issue. I'm more ambiguous about the other VCDS mod that affects the operation of the car - auto locking when leaving the car. The problem is that it locks whenever you shut a door. So if you get out and close the door but need to get something from the back seat area, you have to re-open it again via the handle or key fob. This can be inconvenient - though it's partly a matter of getting used to it and anticipating, which I am getting better at. OTOH I like the fact that a. I can just walk away from the car when I'm say briefly going into a shop; and b. I know that the car is locked (if with no alarm) even if I forget to touch the front door handle when parking up properly. Other mods, which were mostly more minor or aesthetic (DRLs), I'm very happy with. I do like the fact that the clock now changes automatically to reflect the current time where I am. Many thanks once again to you Gizmo for being so generous with your time and equipment. Hope you enjoyed the Jupiler.

  10. Likely a warped brake disk, or possibly even slightly binding brakes. Dodgy / loose engine mount maybe. Check for hot wheels at end of your journey. Could be slightly buckled wheel although unlikely to cause vibration IMO. (I buckled one of mine but it still drove fine with it). The tyre will still keep it's shape. I too would take it back whilst still in warranty as in it's current state it sounds unfit for purpose and possibly unsafe to drive. Hope you get it sorted.

  11. I'd take it back to the dealer to fix before you do too much.

  12. That's not standard procedure, you only went to have the tyres changed, and they're changed and balanced ... if the rim is damaged (there is a tolerance which can be fixed/compensated with weights) it can still be put on the car, meaning it is road ready, but that doesn't mean much if you car's wheel alignment is off (it can be that any of the wheels is directed more to the opposite side or to the inside of the car that the normal tolerance), which can cause vibrations which get worse as the speed increases ... below is the example of the before & after to give you an idea:

  14. Go to adaptations (under 44 - steering Assist) and search ‘driving' Under “Driving profile switchover’ as std it will be: “Incremental: controlled over time” Change this to: “Direct: controlled over threshold value” What you will now have is more ‘normal’ throttle pedal. I have tried the Audi mod and this one combined with my pedal box turned off, yes it is better but still not as good as the pedal box, HOWEVER once the ‘Driving profile’ has been changed it improved the pedal box even more!.

  20. Probably one of the first to join this club as mine registered on 17/08/2017 and car was intended for Skoda dealer in Nottingham so they probably ordered it in May in Black Pearl, spare wheel, reverse camera and electric sunroof. Only had to wait 2 weeks for delivery and mileage now 8,420. Mods so far are AMD stage 1 re-map and silver Skoda genuine bumper protector. Best car I have owned and I have had a lot of cars since passing my test in 1983.

  22. Had our car for a couple of weeks or so now although its been sat on the drive for the past week while we were away on holiday. Anyway today was a nice day so gave it it's first wash along with the Up, both looking really good in black. The car has only done 200 miles so we're still getting to know it but even though it's early days we're extremely happy with it. We even had the sun roof open today, not had one in a long time so bit of a novelty. Also, things like the Velcro boot storage retaining things are really useful, daft little things i never knew i needed in my life One minor negative though is the car seems a bit keen off the mark in first gear (dsg), noticebly different to my Golf, something I'll keep an eye on.

  23. Happy to report the safe arrival of my new 2.0TDI 150 DSG SE Tech hatch in Quartz Grey. (Standard specification except for wiper and spare wheel) which replaces my Superb3 2.0D DSG SE Business estate. Although the trim etc the same, quite a few technology enhancements - Amundsen is lots better - touch screen actually works well. Hasn't realised the 150D now has Ad blue and 7spd instead of 6. Engine noticeably quieter. Build quality seems better although squeaky seat/centre console bit annoying Bought on Personal Contract Hire direct from Lightcliffe Warrington (a much better experience than previous from Lookers Stockport)

  25. Here's a few shots old/new & before/after regarding the dsg oil replacement. The main reason I did this entire procedure was because I didn't know when the last gearbox oil change was completed, and I wanted to do this properly (all genuine parts). I've also taken a photo of the dsg fluid pipe (my part no is 02E 321 363 C). I've marked the liters on the white plastic basin for easier reference later. Regarding the new oil filling: there are several methods, gadgets and adapters available - what I've ordered seems to me like the best approach (if you use the genuine 1 liter fluid container, maybe some others as well, as long as the thread on the cap is the same). I've ordered a filler hose that is very cheap, but the connections are made of metal with quality seals (price approx. 13 GBP with shipping). The filling is simple - when you connect the 1 liter container, you first squeeze the most content you can in the hose, then you use a scalpel/small knife and cut a small hole on the bottom of the container to allow air in, and you're all set to do this 5 more times (the last, sixth container, needs to be half emptied - 5,5 liters of dsg oil are required in total). This setup - before the bottom cutting to enable air - allows for mistakes, because you can drop the container accidentally, and needn't worry about the spills (other methods like the fill funnel on the end might prove to be more messy than you'd want).

  26. The black cat is called Scaredy as he used to be petrified of people. In 2011 he used to spend most of the time on our Garden and hide under the car in bad weather. We'd feed him but he'd bolt if approached. I built him an outdoor shelter which he eventually started to use but he was still a bit thin and scabby with fur missing. Then one day (After about 6 months in the outdoor shelter) he just came up to me and I could see he had an infected bite. Long story but the vet said he was about two years old and neutered so abandoned rather then feral. We treated the bite and also found he has severe flea bite allergy and suffers stress from his early life, he also had dental issues. So £2000 later and another year of coaxing him out of the shelter he finally moved in during 2013. Now when I'm home he doesn't leave my side, hence coming out and sitting on the engine if I'm working on the car. A better life now.

  27. Wow. This site gets a lot of traffic in four days! I'm in Berlin, and just checking in to answer @TonyTonic 's question. At 100 mph, my 220 DSG (sixth gear) makes between 2,750 and 2,800 RPM, observed. The unrestricted Autobahn was not as much fun as I was anticipating. If you want to attempt your maximum speed, you better try it at 3 am. There is simply too much traffic otherwise. I saw 120 mph, but it was too stressful to maintain. Also noted: the maximum you can set the ACC is 160 kph, or 100 mph. And, this is what I did. Amazing how comfortable assured the Sportline is maintaining that speed. 120 mph was a bit frenetic – the steering was set to normal, maybe it would have been better on Sport? In any case, I found the sweet spot to be 3,000 rpm (abut 108 mph). I have no idea what my mileage is. I've got everything set to KPH at the moment and won't be calculating my mileage until I get home with all my receipts. (And, what is "mileage" in kilometers per hour? Kiloterage? This car really soaks up the miles. I do take awhile to straighten up after two hours behind the wheel, but that's just old age. More thoughts on my return.

  29. But there Is a stigma still with buying or having a Skoda, I have had all the jokes “what do you call a Skoda with a sun roof”. ...... a skip, “how do you double a Skodas value”.......... Put petrol in. And that’s off my wife alone, others have said “your buying a Skoda” etc. So whether it’s badge snobbery or what it’s is just peoples perception still. I have been a passenger and driven Skoda lease cars in the past and was impressed, the Karoq just fits the bill for me and I have very broad shoulders. Maybe Skoda recognises the stigma too, anyway I like Paloma Faith and the advert.

  30. Hi. Bought a 15 plate Octavia vRS Diesel today. Don’t get it until 27th April. Blown away by performance and economy. We are coming out of a Mitsubishi Colt CZT which is a very quick and capable hot hatch, so we didn’t want to loose the power we are used to. In gear (in VRS mode), this car pulls like nothing I have driven before.

  32. O.K. thanks!! The replacement fob arrived today. The casing is exactly the same, so not issues with that, but I can't do what I was intending to do, which was just swap the key blade from one key blade mounting block to the other. The reason being that the replacement fob has a different sized split pin that is a bit wider in diameter, but also much shorter that the pin in the original fob. I'll need to take the new fob to Timpsons to get a new key cut. I'll get that done at the weekend, and then transfer the electronics once that's done.

  33. Do you mean the centre console? If so easy! Inside the rear cup holder is a small plastic cover, pop off to reveal (from memory) a Phillips head screw, unscrew, push the console toward the front of the car and lift upward and over the handbrake and that's it!

  36. Gave the old girl a bit of TLC. Oil and filter change along with changing the brake fluid. I’ve been collecting a few bits whilst the weather had been naff so fitted these whilst I was at it. Nothing wrong with the OEM clutch slave but it’s not orange or as beautifully machined the Oberon clutch slave. The lever action after bleeding the clutch is lovely and smooth action. Also fitted the Wings carbon side panels which looks great but also helps remove heat from the engine. Charlie over on the KTM forum makes various bits for these bikes and one of these is the magnetic oil filter cover. By magnetic it’s like something from a Roadrunner cartoon by Acme, powerful enough to lift a 5lb lump hammer. Between this, the magnets in the two screens and the oil filter it should keep the engines life blood cleaner for longer.

  40. Your car should be perfect. You have a Warranty and consumer rights. If a Skoda Main Dealer technician finds a fault then back you go to where you bought it, return the car if anything major, or have them fix anything minor. Once the Full Service History is again updated by Simpsons Skoda servicing your car then buy a Skoda Warranty safe in the knowledge there was No known issues. 'Simply Clever' really. Have fun, and just enjoy your car. You have done all you can possibly do to get a good one. PS Best advice i can give is use Tesco / Costco Super Unleaded 99 ron minimum, or Shell V-Power if you must, Sainsbury 97 ron or other Super Unleaded 97 if that is all you can get, but not 95 ron. Once you know the spark plugs are good, correct gap, then try to always let the oil get above 50*oC indicated or nearer 80*oC before ever really booting it hard. Blows that soot out the exhaust, and enjoy the car. A roasting a day keeps the oil issues away. Well before parking it up, cleans the plugs up, Just IMO.

  47. The oil pump cover was a walk in the park job compared to the oil pan cover, the latter being not that accessible and there is very little room to maneuver (no matter if the car is on the jacks or on the elevator), but I'd recommend the jacks because you need to be able to have access to the engine bay from both the top and bottom. Like I've mentioned before the new oil pan cover already comes with a seal, so there is no need to order it separately. On the following photo you'll see the round connector in the center that needs to be disconnected (the little handle needs to be turned towards the left, it is a self-locking mechanism - one that pulls the connector close with the rotation, you'll need to apply force to it, because it is probably stuck as the years went on - but don't break it). As you can see on the surroundings, there is a lot of debris, which should be cleaned thoroughly before doing anything on the gearbox openings. If you have big hands, everything will be that much difficult for you. Remove the two nuts holding the cable on the middle of the pan and when you unfasten the lower screws, you'll get an oily welcome (have that basin prepared underneath it, it will drain from the center part if the car is level as it should be). When you manage to remove the cover (make sure to bring the old seal down together with the cover - I've had them separated so you can see which is which), what will emerge underneath is the mechatronic module, don't waste too much time looking at it, put the new cover over it as soon as possible. It is recommended to replace the two seals on the round connector. You actually need 5 torx screws, I've followed the catalogue and ordered six, but the sixth one came in handy, as I've damaged one screw new while trying to tighten it and my had came loose, damaging the torx head, but luckily, I've managed to remove it from the cover and use the remaining one. The new screws have a different head and are shorter. Now, you could say that someone actually swapped the two pan's screws (because this is what it appears like), but following the genuine part numbers and locations, this is what it leads to, doesn't appear to be wrong (like they initially made the mistake and corrected it later in the manufacturing process). The new oil filling suggestion will follow.

  49. Colne Branch did the '5 Fabia VRS MK2 Oil fixes nearly a year ago' even though i bought the car originally from motorpoint. My 75% contribution was worth it car still running and the fixes worked. Also provided us with a Citigo for the missus on PCP 2 years ago - great car, no issues. My recent visits have noticed the showroom staff change a lot - usually a bad sign and its always murder parking! Also i gave Ross 4 months to find me a MK3 Fabia Monte Carlo in Blue. Insisted on trying to sell the missus a white one - no good keeping clean for motorway driving. Because we were paying cash and not PCP i think we got bumped to the back of the queue. When he finally phoned (months later) saying one available it was an hour too late we already had purchased another demonstrator car from the Manchester Branch!
