  1. Where is that! Bicester's only down the road and ive been looking for a private place to try some timings out... PM me if you want ;)

I travel past Bicester quite regularly.....is it possible to arrange something?? As with Walkie, you can PM if you like

  2. ould have been well up **** street if i hade smashed the car and the insurance company found the chip whaich i had no idea was there!!

    kit :)

Plausable deniability!!!! The insurance forms are to the best of your knowledge. If you buy the car brand new, then it is accepted the car will be in standard fettle and an mods are the owners doing. If, however, the car is bought second-hand, and it is sold to you as standard and there are no indications to the opposite, why would you have declared otherwise...if you catch my drift.

And why would you have paid for a remap to the standard power, anyway????

  3. Yeah, mine has a noise which I'm told is common on the Octavia. Comes and goes from the driver's door area, sounds very similar with a hint of vibration or tapping on top. I've experienced this for the last two years and I WILL get around to taking the door panel off and taping or binding the offending wiring up to stop it once and for all.

  4. HGV's are limited to exactly 90km/h --> 56mph. This speed is taken from the tachograph and is supposed to be accurate to wothin 5%' date=' as opposed to 10% on car speedo's.

By removing the limiter you eliminate the 1/4mph difference between HGVs leading to 10 mile overtakes.[/quote']

Wasn't there talk of taking the european speed of 52mph for LGV and above???

I only ask as I have started to see "Limited to 52mph" on the back of some fuel artics.

  5. gosh - does this mean that you guys wouldn't order black magic again? might the same apply to graphite dark grey?

Absolutely, I'd order it again!!!! I can't stand red, I have no wish to buy a yellow car. So that leaves silver, which is the only colour I would consider if black wasn't an option :D!!!

  6. isnt there a 10 year anti corrosion warranty then that means u could have a fresh new paint job :) or am i wrong

I think that is when an undamaged/unblemished area of bodywork starts corroding before the 10 year mark. If it's a stonechip then I believe that's a different issue.

  7. ......so I'm very surprised to hear that paintjobs that have been treated so carefully are swirly...

If you look at my paintwork, it looks perfect. But when the sun is out and you get the light to shine in a particular direction, the swirls are very evident.

  8. Mine has never seen a car wash machine in it's life. For the last 2 years I have hand washed mine using a proper lambs wools mitt, but not before I have given the car a good jetting down to get rid of as much as I can. Then I dry her off with a microfibre drying towel, and all this is done in straight wipes and not in a circular motion.

MY CAR IS STILL SWIRLED TO HELL AND NEEDS SCRATCHX-ing DESPARATELY.

This is the worst I have seen in terms of a black clear-coated car considering the length I go to to try and prevent the problem in the first place.

  9. From the original ContiSports I got 35325miles out of a set of four, swapping front to back at around 22k and running 2.2 - 2.3bar all round. Most of the driving was motorway, with frequent spirited bursts around the countryside.

Just passed 41k on the new tyres and thinking about swapping front to back.....already!!

  10. Taken from here:

    1. The magnets are tiny, and pretty weak. There's no demonstrable effect of these things on hydrocarbon liquids such as gasoline (petrol) or diesel. A magnet cannot provide oxygen and neither can it change the amount of heat released from burning the fuel.

    2. Liquids cannot "retain" any magnetic effect when they leave the magnet, even if affected when within it. Hence you cannot "charge up" a liquid in the way that a dust particle can be charged.

    3. There is no truly independent lab analysis which could give evidence that combustion can be improved nor that you'll get better power output or lower emissions. The "labs" that give reports and testimonials to the various magnetic product companies are either on their payroll, or received generous "donations". No conflict of interest there then.

    4. A modern car engine will typically fail to completely burn something like

  11. Don't think that having the Missus on your insurance will cripple you, more than likely to bring it down IMO.

When I had my previous cars I used to add my Mum or GF to my insurance, My Mum I could understand bringing the premiums down but the GF did the same amount of good......to the tune of a couple of hundred notes.

I don't quite understand the logic but I could see the benefits quite clearly!! :D

  12. Right then,

How much brake fluid do I need to do a proper, thorough change??

What is in the reservoir from the factory, and can I use Castrol Response Super Dot 4 with it???

The PFR6Q spark plugs, anyone know of the cheapest place to get a set???

Finally, and thanks for listening, what have other Octy RS owners been paying for their 40k??

    Cheers,

    /G

  13. Did it on mine......pieces of advice,

Get both front seats as far forward as possible and work from the back seat. I had to fabricate a bolt so as to hold the handbrake mount in place, because it utilises the handbrake mounts, then a small gap with a nut on to support the armrest bracket and finally a nut on top....if that makes sense. As previously mentioned you will have to loose the coin tray and temporarily remove the rear ashtray.

Doing the bolt thing has given it a stronger feel to the standard bolt and wobble fixing supplied.

  14. I have thought of all possibilities.......I was on a flat stretch of round, I had passed several other cameras while going through the roadworks, when it flashed the speedo hadn't moved from where it was, my snooper had picked it up on GPS and had locked on to the radar signature so had 250m warning. There was a large truck advancing then falling back repeatedly, but it was me who was on the road markings. :(

  15. I find that a frugal right foot will result in better mpg than using the cruise. Although saying that, the cruise is consistant in its results.

The advantage with using it though is you keep a clean lisence in 30's 40's etc :)

I'm not so sure, I was travelling bang on 40mph through the roadworks on the M25 on cruise, and I got flashed  I now waiting for the dreaded letter to make a ominous thud on the door mat. :thumbdwn:
