  1. I had a 1.4mpi for 6 years, and did just shy of 60K, and I sold it because the engine started to concern me (rough idling, using a little coolant every now and then).

In my opinion it certainly isnt worth throwing any money at it (e.g. LPG) as you dont know what repair bills are around the corner.

I sold it for a new Fabia VRS, didnt need it, just WANTED it. If your GF isnt keen, let her sell it. If I was in her position and could afford the load payments, then I would much rather be driving a £15K car.

Oh, I used to get indicated about 35-38, which was roughly a true 30-35 on mine.

Whatever she decides, let us know !

  2. Cheers John, brilliant offer, although I'm more interested in how you uprated yours (did you keep DMF ? Who did it ? Dare I ask cost ?).

Jasc1988, yes realise its under warranty, more concerned about breaking down mid journey and I only just noticed it today. Will probably give it another few days to see if it is consistent or worsens.

    Cheers

  3. Hiya all,

2006 Fabia Vrs with 30K on, no remap or tuning.

In the last couple of days, occasionally when engaging 3rd gear at fairly slow speeds there is a slight squeal and a bit of a jolt as it engages.

No clutch slip that I'm aware of.

    Any ideas ?

Does this sound like the start of a problem ? Doesn't do it all the time.

    TIA

    RBW.

  4. Is it two or three years on the Fabia ?

Asking the question for two reasons, firstly after bren's post about turbo failure, and the fact that my mileage is 30K also.

Also, dont want to use main dealers after the warranty has expired, as I feel Im being ripped off. My 30K lube service cost over £130, with £75 of labour for something that could only have taken 30 minutes. I do wonder what the book time for a lube service is, surely cant be more than an hour ?

    Cheers.

  5. My headlight bulb blew on my VRS the other day (impressed that it has a warning buzzer for that, my previous Fabia didnt, although it was a lower spec).

Anyways, replaced the bulb Sunday, started the car this morning and it blew almost immediately (but I checked it worked on Sunday when fitted). As the bulbs cost about £5 a go, Im not that keen to keep putting bulbs in. Anyone know if this is likely to just be a bad bulb, or are the electrics likely to cause this problem on the Fabia vrs ?

Daft question I guess, just have to fit another bulb and see if that blows again.:o

  6. Just asked my dealer to go ahead and arrange the Skoda leather retrim option :) . Really fed up with how the seats are wearing, especially as the worst marks on the seat are from the dealer changing the seat base (but they have given a small discount on the leather).

I know there are cheaper options (e.g. seat surgeons), but Im happy with my choice, and the dealer will lend me a car whilst it is being done (as I think it will take a couple of days).

Had the car for just over a year, and done 25K, and will keep it for at least another two years, and possibly 4, so Its worth it to me to get it done (does it sound like Im trying to justify my choice :P )

    Can't wait !

  7. Hiya,

The only Nottingham dealer is Farmers Skoda in Daybrook.

I would strongly not recommend them.

My car came out of its last service with bodywork scratched in two places, and grubby grease marks on the seats (not good on a vRS). Every time my car has been there, it hasnt been straightforward. Apart from the rectification work for problems they caused, my car will not go near that dealership again.

They dont do what I ask them to do (simple thing, I asked them to change the central locking on the first service so that all four doors unlock, and she wrote it on the worksheet). They are useless at ordering parts, they ordered the wrong seat base, and they tell you want you want to hear, rather than what is reality.

All in all, they are shockingly bad in my experience.

Even though I live in Nottingham, I will be trying a Leics dealer next, thats how bad I think they are.

This will probably make me move away from Skoda when I change my car, as its a PITA getting my car to a dealer. Halls in Ruddington were always excellent, but they are not shown as a Skoda Service agent now.
