pixi, I think 2006 model cars get 'EBA' as well (Emergency Brake Assist).
I believe this is intended to monitor the braking effort, and if it senses you are braking heavily, it will 'assist' by applying maximum possible braking pressure.
Cheers.

Hiya all,
I have recently ordered a vRS fabia, and agreed a pex value for my 5 yr old 1 owner Fabia 1.4.
The issue is, my brother has asked about the car, and if I will sell it to him. I am concerned whether a 1.4 8v with 64K on the clock is likely to have head gasket trouble in the near future ?
Anyone got a higher mileage on a 1.4 8v engine ?
Cheers

You have 20K miles on the other tyre and 7mm of tread left ???????
WOW !

That sounds like the spec of the Fabia vRS I've just ordered.... cant wait...

Lovely interior, great car.... and the engine provides very linear power. Its not a 'kick in the pants' type of acceleration, and because of that not wildly exciting.
Fast though

Yes, it is exactly as you said..... something to do with the material they use for the brake pads/shoes iirc.
Its not terminal, just means you have squeaky brakes until the layer of rust comes off the disc/drum.
I chatted to the dealer about it, and he said it was related to the brake pads containing particles of metal, as they cant use asbestos in the brakes now. I was initially worried that the rear shoes (drum rears on mine) were grinding metal on metal but they checked it over and said it was fine.
So, it still does it occasionally, but I know its nothing serious so it doesnt bother me.
Not an ideal answer I guess, but on the plus side, Ive just replaced my front brakes after 60K miles !!
Cheers.

Yer, my dealer rang me up to tell me about it, dont think I will bother for £1300. Too much compared to the cost of the car imho. Also I assume the long term fit probably isnt going to be as good as factory fitted leather.

OK, sorted it !!
Snapping a hacksaw blade in two was the perfect tool for taking the clarion out. Also removed my hands free car kit at the same time.
The stock headunit sounds awful compared to the Clarion, so am really pleased I have managed to take it out rather than pay £35 for uninstalling, then another £35 to put in the new car.
Thanks for the advice guys.
Cheers.

Interesting Vindaloo, I asked at the local Halfords and they said they didnt have removal tools for the Clarion as they werent a stockist for them. Do the 'generic' removal tools work ?

Anyone know the cost for this Skoda approved retrofit ?

Hi Guys, got a 2000 Fabia, with a Clarion head unit. I want to take this out and put the original head unit in back in ready for my new Fabia vRS on order.
The place that fitted the stereo want

I rang my dealer earlier, after just ordering a vRS in Silver. He rang the factory, and as has been stated, looks like a printing error. If anyone gets a dealer to confirm these colours for the vRS, please shout !
Cheers..

Hi Guys, how is the head unit of the Fabia vRS rated ?
Just ordered a vRS but have a 10 week wait, and have a Clarion DXZ428R head unit in my current Fabia which I really rate, but only put it in to get a CD changer as my current fabia just had a radio/cassette.
My Clarion wasnt that expensive, about

Dave, yes 10 weeks will seem like a long time, can't wait although I do need to get the stereo removed from the existing car (clarion head unit with faceplate adaptor and aerial booster).
Anyone know what the stereo in the vRS is like now ? I have a Clarion which wasnt really expensive (about £150), but I really like it, so will be tempted to put that in the vRS.
carefree 'taxi'...haha... I wasnt seriously looking at the Octavia, just seemed rude not to try it . If I wanted to spend another £10Kish, and wasnt bothered about economy I might be in that market.

Hiya guys (+ gals), finally done it and ordered a Fabia vRS in Silver. Also added Cruise, ESP, and heated seats to the spec. Factory order, so should be around week 10. This will feel quite different to my 8v 1.4 Fabia !
Also had a test drive of an Octavia vRS, and its a lovely car. Interior is really nicely designed and VERY comfy. Needless to say the engine performs fantastically (although perhaps a little bland and characterless). The thing that impressed me most about the Octavia vRS is the ride and handling, in that its sporty and firm, but very compliant and smooth over bumps too. If I wanted a bigger car, I would definately consider it, but its not really in the same market as the Fabia vRS but It would be a very difficult decision between a golf gti and the Octavia.
Cheers.

P.S. Anyone want to buy a Fabia....

Thanks guys, I dont think there is a bad colour really, but I have a Silver Fabia (1.4 8v) at the moment, and really like the idea of having another Silver Fabia with a bit more 'pep' in it to surprise people.
-
mmm..... you lot are no help...lol

Hopefully ordering a new Fabia vRS tomorrow, and torn between silver and red. Any practical issues/benefits with either of these colours ? e.g I have a silver Fabia and it doesnt seem too bad after 5 years, few stonechips, does Red fair the same/better/worse ??
Cant go for yellow, wife has a yellow mini ! And I cant go for black, as already have a 2005 Yamaha R6 in black, and its a pig to keep clean.
Cheers.

P.S. Spec so far :
ESP + Side Airbags + Cruise + Heated front seats

IIRC the 8v 1.4 MPI engine is an old Skoda block. This is NOT a VW engine, it is a Skoda engine, based on an overbored 1.3.
How did the block get cracked out of interest ?

Has anyone had a recent model successfully remapped ? I like the idea of the tuneability of the vRS, but a bit concerned that the ability to do this has been reduced by making the engine Euro iV compliant.
There was a recent thread about the disappointing results of a remap for a recent model, and I wonder if this is related ?
Cheers.

Interesting point MadJak, not really had much experience of VW dealers, but have to agree the Skoda dealers are best of a bad bunch from my experiences so far.
I'd also expect VW models to be at least as well screwed together as the Skoda, which doesnt seem to be your view having owned a VW.
Looks like I am going to have to spend a bit of money on the fabia http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43878, as I dont want to change until March for the 06 plates. Ho hum...

Well, I dont feel so bad about the consumption dropping now, thanks guys.... MagiBoy, thats a good point as I had two new tyres a week or so ago, and havent checked the pressures since so they might have 'settled' a little.
I'll check the tyres tomorrow, and then give it a few weeks and see what happens.
Cheers.

I think the residuals on the vRS would be slightly better than the pd100, so whilst a pd100 might be about £1K cheaper to buy, the vRS's whole life costs wouldnt be that much more (have driven both the pd100 and a vRS - loved them both).
I would look at a Golf GT TDI, but a) its much more expensive, and it doesnt come with some of the things I want which the SE includes (e.g. Cruise control). Whilst you can spec them, the options arent exactly cheap.
I guess it comes down to what I really want, the vrs gives speed, whereas the golf (the 105bhp) trades speed for a slightly bigger interior, and the VW badge.

Redbaron, the 1.4 8v (68bhp) is NOT a Volkswagen engine.
