Ahh, now that would make sense, mine is petrol but I assume the argument is the same...
Thanks for the reply. I think the sensible option is to leave it for a few weeks and see if it improves.
Cheers.

Well, this is a record for me, 3 posts in 1 day !
Had my Fabia 1.4 comfort 8v since new, and put 60K on it (ok SWMBO had it for its first 2.5 years of its life, and did a very low mileage).
Thinking about changing, and have narrowed the choice down to two models (I do about 20K per year).
Firstly the Fabia vRS for obvious reasons, power, economy, and hopefully reliability, which with the options I want I can get for just over

Not sure if this is the correct place for this posting, but anyway...
My 1.4(8v) Fabia normally does about 38mpg (the readout shows about 45mpg), and it has suddenly dropped to about 38mpg (readout showing about 28).
Its recently had its 60K service, with new front brakes, and I have also had two new front tyres fitted, and moved front wheels to back. I cant hear anything binding, and do about 80 miles per day, but the fuel consumption drop seems to be since the service (driving in a similar fashion of course).
Any ideas on what to check ? e.g. if they had put the air filter back badly could this have affected it ?
The engine note seems to have changed slightly, a little bit harsher - but cant be certain - could it just be coincidence and the engine is getting tired at 60k ?
Looking for any help or advice, what with this and the suspension problem (see Ask a tech section), I think this is the cars punishment for me looking at new cars !
Cheers,

BMW have it too.......

No such problems in Nottingham, no traffic force..... So you can drive around pi**ed as a fart/stoned out of your mind as long as you dont exceed the limit as the speed cameras will get you.
Interesting that I couldnt find actual number for Nottinghams drink drive campaign last Xmas, only percentages.... e.g. 10% failed... 10 tested, 1 failed.
Im not bitter obviously...

Someone has already mentioned steering wheel adjustment, remember that the fabia has both reach AND rake which makes a great difference to driving comfort. I find I can get the best position in this car to almost any other car, and yes I also have the drivers seat on the lowest setting. 6' tall, and 75kgs.
Cheers.

Put castors on the roof ?
P.S.
Meant to say... WOW, what a transformation from a pd100 to pd130...

I know Auto Express mentioned it (but didnt say it was confirmed), has anyone spoken to a dealer that knew when it was available ?
Next obvious question....

Good idea or bad given that we are supposed to be having a real winter this year ?
-
How cool is that.....

Just something to check, mine does this when the coolant level drops below a certain point.. Is the coolant fully topped up ? (Not a VRS)
Also, is the car parked on an incline ? Mine is, so when I take the car off the drive, if I switch the ignition off then off again, the light disappears.
Cheers.

Buy a Mini instead .... wife loves the quick-clear on hers.

Martyng, on the basis that the dealer has quoted to replace a timing belt that doesnt exist, I'm not sure I would put any faith in the quote given !

Mmmm.. wondering myself how long the 8v will remain 'serviceable'.... its at 60K at the moment, so will probably keep it for another year or so (20K per year).
I've noticed a bit of rattling from mine, but it drives as well as ever, so dont feel too inclined to worry about it.
Cheers...

400+ miles out of a tank ??? I must be driving it wrong.. I do a 40 mile commute each way, and am lucky to get 370 out of a tank...
ASR traction control is unusual on the MPI, I also changed the head unit as well, as wanted to be able to play CD's.

Phew, thought I was going mad.... so thats saved a few quid
What do you think of the car Boydie, mine was my wifes from new, then I had had it a couple of years ago and its been a really reliable car. I keep thinking about a VRS, but wont replace it until it starts costing me money.
I had cruise control, and remote central locking put on it, and am really happy with the car.
Just wish the frickin thing would break down so I had an excuse to replace it with a VRS...

P.S. I think we should have a 8v owners forum...lol

Does the 1.4 MPI (8v) require a timing belt change at 60 K ? My fabia is also just on 60K, and booked in for a service, but I couldnt find anything in the Service manual about a timing belt change (other than for diesel).
Would be useful to know if this does need changing.
TIA

Skodayouth, you dont happen to have one of those technical info sheets for the 8v do you ?

Thanks all. Lummox, I checked the head gasket after you mentioned it in a previous thread and couldnt find the word TEMAC. I presume this is on a 'tab' that sticks out on the gasket between the head and the block ? Is it always on the RHS or LHS ? Is it a particular colour or material ?
I'll have another look at the weekend in the light. If it isnt there, should it be replaced, or does that open up a can of worms ?
Again thanks all.

Hiya all,
A thread recently talked about using G12+ coolant iirc specifically for the 1.4 8v. Can i get this from any autostore, or is it just Skoda dealers ?
My low level coolant warning light has come on again, and I brought some coolant a while ago to top up, but this was just a bottle I brought from Halfords, not the 'pink one'.
I cant get to a skoda dealer at the moment, so just wanted to know if I can get it from anywhere else (even if VW garages will stock it, as there is one near work).
Not too worried about having to top it up, as it tends to need topping up every 5 months or so, and the temperature always stays at the middle of the gauge (unless someone wants to worry me that impending head gasket failure is due !).
My car is a 2000 1.4 8v with 57K on it.
Cheers.

Hiya all, I've got a 1.4mpi Fabia Comfort that i drive 'enthusiastically' and scared myself silly today with the rain. Currently got Michelin Energy tyres on the front, does anyone have experience with Michelin Exalto's ?
Dont mind sacrificing a bit of wear, just want a tyre that grips now and then !
Cheers.

P.s. Probably especially bad today as lots of rain after a dry period, but the front end was breaking loose a ridiculously low speeds.
P.P.S Size is 185/60R14
Fuel consumption suddenly dropped

Does that apply to both diesel and petrol ?
