  1. One word of warning. If you are casting from any sort of device to another, ie sending video and sound via wifi routers etc, then DRM comes into effect. This is Digital Rights Management and means that you can't do things like watch SKY movies and cast them from your device/laptop/PC to your tv or similarly with Apple, Netflix, Amazon Prime and so on. But if you can get a wired connection between a TV and a laptop/PC then if your Laptop/PC can play it, then your telly can do it too. This is because your Laptop/PC can use the telly as it's monitor (replacing or duplicating it's own screen) and it's a workaround for DRM issues. Here is a cheap VGA+Audio to HDMI convertor just for example https://www.amazon.co.uk/FOINNEX-VGA-HDMI-Converter-Connecting-HDTV-Male-VGA-HDMI-Cable-1-8M/dp/B072KR7MJW/ref=pd_day0_2?pd_rd_w=EOTGk&pf_rd_p=8ec13b8a-30d2-48fc-8503-84c56766370d&pf_rd_r=34JBWCFKMT4NJ83B27VZ&pd_rd_r=8b2c4d39-2d03-4cfa-a4ad-0aaefd7cab13&pd_rd_wg=MJJEk&pd_rd_i=B072KR7MJW&psc=1
  2. You can usually buy buggery boxes on Amazon. Have a look at the connectors you need and try to reverse engineer the adapter box you need. Somebody (China) will make something that can get pictures and sound out of your laptop and into the telly. The easiest way to do YouTube is simply look at the 'cast/sharing' symbol on YouTube and if you have any kind of steaming stick there is an excellent chance it will instantly-ish appear on your telly box. Chromecast keys work splendidly for this purpose and I have one permanently stuck into an HDMI port on my telly in case I want to fling something from my PC/:Laptop onto it. This guy does a demo. I have used it very easily with Windows 7 and 10
  3. I first came across him in a dinner queue in a catering tent at Silverstone. He was speaking at exactly the same pace and loudness as his commentary. I was awe struck!
  4. If you can get Sound and vision out of your laptop and sound and vision into your TV, then yes. Anything you can see and hear on your laptop can be mirrored or sent to your telly. You just the right connectors/converters
  5. Make sure you put the latest HDMI 2.1 cable in. It's usually marked as 8K capable and will fireproof, at least for a few years as streaming services are now running at up to 4K 50 fps (60 Frames Per Second in the USA)
  6. I can start one if you like. I have several ageing laptops. Most of which are either steam powered or clockwork.
  7. On the subject of Roku sticks I have the 4K stick and the 1080 regular stick. The 4K stick is two little lumps that are joined with a cable and the in turn plugs into your tv with a very short cable. This means it is quite flexible and doesn't need to stick out at all usually, it will also recognise your telly is 4k, 1080 or 720 etc and adjust accordingly. My more regular HD Roku stick is a conventional stick, I use it when working away sometimes and have added a sort of hinged HDMI adapter. You plug one end into the telly and the other end accepts your stick (Roku. Fire, Chromecast etc) The advantage with Roku is it carries all the usual streamers, ie Amazon, Netflix, Sky Now, BBC iplayer, Apple etc etc and is not tied to any broadcaster or streaming service. I should add the 4k version also has a volume control on the side and supports voice searching too I have a 4k Amazon fire Cube (Size of large mug) which is pretty zippy in operation and supports most things - usual suspects (Netflix doesn't show in 4K with it though, at least not on my telly box combo), does Apple 4k and supports Dolby Vision and 60fps, as well as interfacing with my Hive system (heating and lighting etc) Also the voice command is pretty slick and I use it to switch between my HDMI inputs as well as search programs I want to watch. It's not quite as good as SKY's Q box and it's voice search, but very good nonetheless. I've a 4k Chromecast which is superb for casting from a PC, Laptop of Android phone and has several streaming services, but not Amazon Prime (unsurprisingly)
  8. I wish I could stand Schmeeeeeee, but I find him and in particular his voice, grating. Shame really as he seems to have great taste in cars Sorry Schmeee
  9. It reminds me of an attempt I made once to do a barista style coffee
  10. I'll stop with the review posting now. Here is a final one and it's from Mr C Harris. He prefers the DCT of the old car A massive fan of the previous M3/4. What do you reckon he will make of this one?? I think the consensus seems to be the car is a 4-4.5 star car, not quite the full 5 star BMW would have hoped for. Should help Alfa sales (who wants a 2.0 C63?) and help the residuals of the outgoing model
  11. Interestingly Henry Catchpole seems to really like it and even prefers the auto box to the DCT. Mind you he has a point in that the DCT can brake traction to the rear wheels at almost 100mph in the dry (where roads permit of course). I hope the M2 is the car that the M4 used to be. BMW have reduced the M3/4 torque in the first 2 gears (similarly to what they did on later M3/4s (F80/82) at least in the RWD versions. If you see the car doing a fast start it pulls away quite slowly, although BMW are claiming 0-62 in 3.9 seconds. I haven't seen 0-100 or any other metrics yet. I don't mind the looks at all though, in fact my only real issue with the M3 is the weird ridge the flared rear wing makes with the door. Quite ugly. Of the 2 version of the M4 though, mine is certainly the looker of the family powerhouse munter it is then I've read a couple of reviews too now and they seem to think the best super saloon is still the Alfa as the M3 is now basically treading on M5 style territory, at least that's what I read into it. Autocar magazine say it's more like the AMG C63 than ever now. They do suggest that if you want a traditional M3/4 you can still buy an M2 Hopefully 'Harry' will get one in his garage to test soon
  12. If it was 10% smaller it would be a great size. But that weight and length. It's not that far off being a 5 metre long car!
  13. Crikey the fuel consumption is potentially ridiculous....and not in a good way.
  14. So the reviews are in. What do you guys reckon. Lardy, pig ugly munter, or powerhouse diving machine? Does it handle or steer like a stuck pg (it has been described as looking like one) The first review is the legendary Steve Sutcliffe, the guy that showed Chris Harris how to do it when Harris was a young reporter
  15. For those interested the embargo on press reviews and tests, lifts at 23:00hrs tonight ie 5 mins approx
  16. This slug deliberately chews it's own body off...or should that be chews it's own head off?? It survives btw, so don't panic https://gizmodo.com/these-slugs-cut-off-their-own-heads-when-they-want-a-ne-1846428980
  17. On the subject of embargo lifting, here is an early sneak look at an acceleration run. The car defaults to launching in 2nd! Quite impressive for a porker. The weight figures they are quoting seem to be aimed more at the lower power 'Pure' version rather than the full fat Comp version. I've seen figures usually over 1,800kg for that one. Also, one good thing for the haters is, that at least as it seems quick, you will see more of it's tail lights and thus spare you looking at the front
  18. Just a thought. The embargo on the new M3/4 ends tonight so we should be bombarded with reviews. I'll keep this thread unlocked for them BUT I ASK VRSKEITH TO START HIS OWN THREAD ON THE MATTER WITH ENDLESS LINK POSTING. I BELIEVE THAT IN A FORUM, IT IS THE MEMBERS THAT COUNT, NOT THE MOUSE CLICKS, COPY AND PASTE. SO I AM ASKING ONE MORE TIME KEITH. PLEASE DO NOT POST IN MY THREAD. THIS IS MEANT AS A THREAD FOR DISCUSSION NOT WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU DO. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT HERE. I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE TO ASK YOU TO STOP. forum noun 1. a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
