Very sensible to get off the motorway and take a break. Interesting you mention aircon and sinuses; I suffer with dry eye and the aircon can play havoc unless I drink plenty of water - which usually means plenty of pee stops 🙄

Yes, was easy enough to get the dealer to do mine, though at the time it was still under the three year warranty. How much difference that will make I don’t know. AIUI, it was a small update and didn’t take long - unlike some updates. It made no difference to the display options in the virtual dashboard; I can get a map view but not with the dials overlaid.

According to the manual I got with my car... "By double locking within 2 seconds."

Hi, and welcome to Briskoda. Which model or Octavia do you have, and do you have the 8" or 10" infotainment screen? Early models with the 10" screen didn't support wireless AA until some software updates; I can't remember when the fix was implemented (I'm an iPhone user) but there has been discussion in this forum in the past. Have you searched for previous posts?

Selection of satnav system is a matter of personal choice/preference - I dislike Waze and Google Maps. Takes alsorts…

Yep, mine is the same as @JamesK There are two subscription services so check you have the right one for map updates (or both).

I prefer the My Škoda Essentials App by a long way, but I think the My Škoda app is improving with successive releases thus I live in hope. The latest iOS app does now show if the car is locked or not... What it displays about being locked if a window is open I don'r know.

I would say go for a Mk4. I reckon they are a much nicer 'place to be' and more fuel efficient. The infotainment system gremlins are by and large fixed particularly with v1941 or 1969 which has sorted the repeated system restarts. Yes, there were a lot of issue with s/ware modules in earlier cars (2020/21) which ought to be fixed by now but have been told by a local dealer sales guy that there are some out there which haven't yet. If you do go for an early Mk4 vehicle I suggest going through a main dealer and ensure that all the fixes are applied and get assurance in writing that they'll do any which arise. Things to look out for include KPH/MPH settings (speedo & satnav), ACC thinking you're driving on the right (and preventing overtaking instead of undertaking), SOS module popping noise, road sign recognition reading as Km not miles), flickering fuel and temperature gauges. The early SE and SE First Edition cars had the smaller 8" infotainment screen, 'standard' cruise control and no SatNav so were not impacted by those issues. In fact, whilst mine was being investigated & fixed I had a 2020 SE FE on loan which was trouble free for the 8.5k miles I had it. During that time (5 months) I very nearly rejected my SEL FE to keep the loan car - very pleased I didn't as now it's fixed it is a lovely car.

I’m not convinced it is temperature related; for about five months last year I was experiencing infotainment system reboots here in UK. Started during March and remained until late July when the s/ware was updated to 1941. All OK now.

Crikey! I'm all in favour of strong passwords, TFA, etc but that seems a bit OTT to change a set of disk pads. Guessing it must be to do with the overall capability of ODIS type systems.
