The car doesn't just need a "normal" Inspection Service - it needs a 20,000 mile one - this on its own would cost around £200 from experience rather than, say, £170 for an ordinary Inspection Service.

It's then hit the 4 year limit on the cambelt thus needs one of those - say around £300+ - and people on here would also change the waterpump though it's not usually advised by the dealers

The brake fluid should have been changed at 2 years and hence it now needs it again - that's another £40

That adds up to £540 (excl. the pump) so the £529 quoted sounds about right. Let us know how low you can get it at an independent - and make sure they service it properly, particularly the oil used.

well if you buy the bits ur self u could do the normal service for less than £60 plus the cost to do the brake fluid change so the only thing your left paying for is the cam belt change. Food for thought :)

If your car is doing just 20k in 4 years then thats about 5k a year. Not a good thing really as it means it's not being run properly and your engine oil should be changed more frequently. Short journeys are very bad for the engine and cause more wear and the only way to fight this is by doing further oil changes. Sorry I don;t wish to alarm you just telling the truth and if you want your car to last a good few years yet I would advise this. If you're not bothered then don't no worries

I do basic servicing myself, oil,air filter, fuel filter. Banana's right about doing it yourself as at least you know whats being put it and what is coming out of it. lol.

What all do you change every 5k?

Well i service my air filter with a clean with air filter cleaner

then just an Oil Change and Filter

thats all you need really!

Fuel Filter every 40k

brake fluid every 2 years

timing belt every 4 years / 60k miles

and thats about it really

Not much to it

I've just been quoted £828.23 for the 4 year service and a cambelt&waterpump change.

Is this a job best left to a dealership garage or should I consider a local indie garage?

If anybody can recommend somewhere in the Bucks/Harrow area I would appreciate it! I just moved to this area so I have no idea who to trust or where to go too?

Even assuming that includes a 24 month brake fluid change that sounds rather high.

Say £325 for the service - £40 for the brake fluid - £350 for the cambelt - £50 for the water pump - that's only coming to £765 - and the prices I'm suggesting there are nowhere near the cheapest I've seen, rather the sorts of prices I've paid... Bucks/Harrow though probably isn't the cheapest area...

If you can be motivated to drive as far as Milton Keynes then there are literally dozens of VAG specialists who are cutting each others throats to do servicing work. Unit 18 are almost in Wellingborough and that might be a bit too far for you, but they're worth the trip. VagTech and IndeTech are both well-regarded in MIlton Keynes and Total VAG are reputed to be good in Leighton Buzzard.

If you want something closer to home then Browns of Thame are worth talking to. That's where Ninja_Alex works and he's rather good at Fabias.
