Scout stage2 - 1.8TSi

Recommended Posts

After 4.500 miles of driving, arrived home a few days ago.

Changes I've done:

1. S3 Intercooler

2. EVOMS TSi Intake

3. REVO stage 2 map

4. 312mm breakes

5. H&R - ARB's front/rear

All done by JKM, Keith is the man!

Carl from REVO also answered many questions, and they have their own A3 with 1.8Tsi engine running stage2 without problems, so thanks to him too.

Lost a few days about the decat/sport exhaust as no one in UK had one or done one, so finally Jeff from Pipewerx made me a custom one 3" downpipe to the silencer, then 2.5" all the way to the end. I went to his shop all day 11am-8pm :) and he did a great job. Top guy!

Rolling road was done by Charlie at Surrey Rolling Road as it has a 4wd Dyno. Top guy too.

The car feels obviously much different, there is just massive pulling power, engine revs crazy easy, but what really makes it good is that it does not feel heavy, and jumps like a mad dog on acceleration. Net weight is 1,646kg so with wife/kid/full gear at 2 tonnes, it really feels light on it's feet.

Dyno says 242.4HP sand 300 Lb/ft on RON95 as that's the way how the map was setup, since petrol here is 95 max.

There is more noise from the exhaust, it's not very loud and on idle can be barely noticed as I liked the quietness of the car. When going over 4K rpm it really sounds like an old Chevy V8.

EVOMS intake is not too obtrusive, can be heard on hard accel. and takeoff, but not that whoooosh sound that i hate.

ARB's have definalty made it feel much better, as fully loaded the car, felt a little floaty at front in high speed bends.

Breakes (VRS OEM) are superb, feel much better then normal ones.

Economy was same as with stage1 from Shark which has worked perfectly.

Did 152 Mph (245kmh) on Germany, at exactly 5,000 rpm, while the redline cutoff is at around 7200rpm.

All in all, it's the stuff the car should of had from the factory :)

Here are some boost figures.

Peak is at 3960 rpm 18.85 psi (1300 mb), other are lower, so I hope it's not punishing the engine too much.

Cruising at motorway as 80mph boost is at 10 psi.

Just sent the car this morning for it's second year scheduled service at Skoda dealer, and got a free oil/filter change (will pay labour) after i let the manager drive the car a few miles :) and he will not void the warranty (between him and me) :)

725. Pain was to make it with prop shaft taking quite a bit of space, and oem exhaust was stupidly squashed in a few places to make space.

Here are some pics of exhaust and last 2 oem exhaust.

Not sure is it WOT or not. Didn't have much time to ask questions as I had to catch the Eurotunnel. I will do my own measurements with VCDS as car is in service today.

CEPi - you already know what I think! ;-) Sounds like a very drivable car now. Real shame that Shark couldn't offer a stage two for this engine. :-( Good luck with it. Oh, and I love the free oil change deal for the quick drive!

Focus, don't talk to me, until you do your Yeti :) Cheers.

To Ben's credit, he did eventually offer a Stage2 map, but he returned the mail late (probably busy Sharking others) and due to limited days, I had to make other arrangements.

Thought, I don't have to say a word for Shark (I've said enough here), as his stage1 has been faultless for 10 months, providing the initial key to performance pleasure :)

It matters maybe, as shark_tech has made a prophecy of saying to me that stage2 will kill the turbo, quoting him:

There really isn't much left on the standard turbo after our remap. Yes we can do a 98RON optimised stage 2 tune for you, but the difference will be marginal, perhaps 8-10hp.

Increasing boost will drive the turbo way beyond its specified rpm range and it will mostly produce heat and funny noises before dying a quick but painful death.

-Mikko/Shark

I hope not! Though the rpm cutoff limit is same as with with stage1. If turbo dies, I'm getting a k04 then to pulverize the engine to molecules :)

Real shame that Shark couldn't offer a stage two for this engine. :-(

With supporting mods perhaps there's more than 8-10hp as Mikko quoted, but to be honest we're more interested in safety, reliability and drivability rather than peak figures and killing turbos. We'd also like to spend plenty of time with a car with those mods on which in this case couldn't be afforded. Unfortunately the email went straight to my inbox rather than the "sales@" address so Cheryl didn't see it and alert me to it.

Regardless of all that, I'm just glad that Bamir is happy with the car as at this point in time we couldn't have offered the wide range of services that JKM did so credit to them.

Lots of exciting changes coming up at Shark HQ though, watch this space...

Cheers Ben. You will always have a special place in my Scout's heart :) You're a gentleman and a scholar.

Good luck with your future services.
