Hi everyone and welcome to my mini project thread,

I have owned the car for about 3 months now and have just become a freedom member so thought it was about time I started a project thread of my own. I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by the wealth of information contained on this forum whilst I have been carrying out a few mods, which has been a great help so thanks to you all!

First off, here are a few pictures of how the car stood shortly after purchasing it. It is a 2006 model vRS and is completely standard apart from H&R OEM springs which came as a nice surprise after I got home:

Planned mods:

PD160 intake

Weitec Hicon GT Coilovers

Uprated rear anti roll bar

Seat sport front strut brace

Lamin-x headlights

Bosch flat wiper blades

Vw polo rear wiper + flat blade

SMD LED side light bulbs

Chrome rear indicator bulbs

LED rear number plate lights

BSAU marked pressed plates

Shark STS remap

Fusion Sub Woofer and amp

Double din headunit

Stainless footrest

Piano black air vent surrounds

Golf/Passat arm rest

In-dash fold away vertical cup holder

Refurb the wheels

Seal rear door cards to prevent leaks into rear footwell

Compomotive MO6/BBS CH alloys may be on the cards (if I'm lucky enough to find a set of 17s in 5x100)

Update to follow soon..

Thanks,

Rhys

Thanks man! Looks great with the piano black vent surrounds, it's definitely something I plan to do with mine. I'll do my best to get a perfect spray job myself but failing that will get that done professionally the same time as my front grille surround, front numberplate holder, lower grille and door handles.

Get a magic sponge for the steering wheel, removes all the dirt grime and the shine and returns it to a Matt finish, looks like new :)

sorry to steal the thread but any idea where to get a magic sponge from?

Nice car buddy!

Did you by any chance purchase it from T J Hayward car sales? I was looking at a fabia vrs there with fantastic paint work, colour coded grille and the vrs nurburgring sticker but when I phone called that evening to confirm it had just gone :p

Yes, it's the same one haha! Its a great car, I'm very pleased with it. When i bought it he had no cambelt receipt and i later found out it had a faulty cam sensor, all sorted now though. Had the cambelt done for piece of mind and changing the cam sensor was no extra cost so i was pretty happy. The wheels needed refurbing too so i bought a new set of Skoda Octavia vRS wheels in bright silver and new center caps so it looks the part now. Did you buy another one in the end?

Cheers mate, it was a bit fiddly as i chose to apply the tint without removing the fog light but i managed it ok, just took my time. I used a hairdryer to melt the tint slightly being careful not to burn the surrounding paintwork and a scalpel to score around the edge of the glass. I'm thinking of getting a Shark stage 1 remap soon, how would you rate your map?

That's exactly how I done it but I've still ended up with a couple of creases :@

The maps spot on, can't fault it tbh. Make sure you do all of your mods like exhaust etc before you get it mapped :)

Forgot to mention, i sprayed a thin layer of water before i applied mine so you can move it about to get rid of the creases then used a credit card to squeegee out the bubbles from the middle out.

Might get a blueflame and decat, heard bad things about the turbo with a decatted system though so might just go for the catback and then get it mapped.

Sorry for the seriously delayed response! Yes I bought another one shortly after  I love the look by the way, really smart and subtle :) I have a thread on here too.. although its not as interesting as this in terms of mods as I have a low budget being a student but I'm getting there :) I hope all is well! also keep us up to date with any new mods ;) I'll have my KW V1's on after christmas

Right, time for a much needed update!

Mods since last update are..

New Garrett VB1740B PD150 turbo

Polycarbonate headlamp protectors

Blueflame catback exhaust

A few weeks ago, whilst keeping up with a fellow Fabia VRS on a motorway sliproad near Newport, my standard kkk turbo gave up the ghost at 73,000 miles :( It sounded like a boost pipe had blown off and then I heard the classic fluttering turbo noise for about 10 secs; I thought it was coming from another car at first before realising that my turbo had stopped engaging and I had a serious problem. The next day, I checked for a boost leak and couldn't find one so decided to take it to my local VW specialist who identified that the rotor shaft of the turbo had broken.

Out with the old..

FB_IMG_13536932188496565.jpg

I am now running a brand new Garrett GT1749VB aka PD150 turbo. The car already feels quicker, even though it shouldn't without a remap, just shows how inefficient the old turbo must have been. Plans are now to order a Seat Sport Intercooler and Darkside hardpipe kit before traveling to Shark in the new year for a custom remap which should see a healthy 200bhp+.

Some photos of the new Blueflame catback. I'm very pleased with it, didn't know a 4 pot diesel could sound this good! Had some problems fitting it as the flange wasn't the slot in type but kudos to Blueflame as they quickly made an adapter pipe which fitted my standard cat, many thanks and great customer service. Can't wait for the custom map now..

Some up to date photos of the car will be up soon following a much needed clean! Will have spent £3k on mods after all this but all fun and games I suppose.. :giggle:
