Replacing roof top aerial

Salut

Recommended Posts

I originally posted this query under the ICE forum: I am still looking for advice, thanks.

The Dance radio has finally given up on reception. I gather I need to replace the head unit. Mine is the 07 plate Roomster 2 with the aerial at the roof front. Has anyone any words of wisdom/guidelines as to sourcing a new unit - are there any upgrades, etc?

I was wondering about a Shark Fin replacement: again any thoughts or comments.

Finally, I have accessed the interior fitting, the swap over doesn't look too difficult. The only query is that there does not appear to be a great deal of 'slack' in the wiring. Again, any comment about fitting would be welcomed.

For the aerial, unless you are in a very strong reception area, a fin won't give good results. You can get replacements that are the same style and with the same connector, this will make the job easier. Remove the interior light and sunglasses holder / security sensor. The aerial cable is connected inside a little foam bag and you pull back a plastic sleeve then it comes apart. Remove the big nut, and bobs your uncle.

This one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-SKODA-ROOF-AERIAL-BASE-1U0035505F-/320846784448?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda%7CModel%3ARoomster&hash=item4ab3f567c0

claims to be the proper part. I bought a new one with DAB included though, so I can't confirm or otherwise, though it does look like a Skoda dealer. Buying a cheaper one elsewhere may mean the connector is wrong. So you would need to check with any other seller that it's right. Alternatively, it may be just as cheap at your dealer.

Yes, especially on ebay, many people will tell you the aerial is suitable. However when it doesn't fit they just give you a refund. You are right to mistrust this kind of information, as there may be several that fit the hole, most have the wrong connector. There may also be two types for the roomy with different angles depending on front ot rear fitment.
