Loud clunking noise after console bush replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi, as the title suggests since having the front console bushes replaced my car has developed a rather loud clunking/knocking noise on the drivers side which can be heard when driving over minor road imperfections, also very noisy when driving up the low kerb onto my driveway when it almost feels like it's causing vibrations through the seat!

I'm going to get in touch with the garage tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has ever experienced this before?

Cheers.

Might want to check a few bolts like wheel bolts and things like that first. Do feedback and let us know what the outcome is. I hate chasing noise round the car...

My car does the exact same thing and right after I fitted new console bushes.

I did read a while back on here someone else having the same problem, will see if I can find it

Well it's going in on Thursday so let's see what the outcome is! So the subframe gets loosened when replacing console bushes? Noticed the car also pulls to the left under acceleration.

My Fabia vRS had a full suspension alignment check on a Hunter rig immediately after having the console bushes replaced.

I'd say the above is the simple way to save wrecking tyres after the sunframe has been dropped - and mainly avoid any "pulling" issues.

The subframe doesn't need to come out for many, if any console bushes. When refitting a subframe it should be pinned first to make sure it's 100% center so not to cause any issues.

It can only really be the front wishbone bolt that holds the wishbone up in place or the balljoint nut.

Regarding the pulling to one side, tracking should be done after console bushes have been changed as they will alter the way the wheels sit.

Only other thing I can think of is the bushes are wrong or fitted incorrectly. If you look at the bushes they have a rubber mark on them and look at the console, it also has a round mark on them. These need to be fitted together and match up when fitted.

Thanks for the replies folks! The bushes are fitted correctly I've had a look at both of them, I'm nearly sure it's the big bolt into the subframe next to the console bush on the drivers side. It doesn't look or feel quite as neat or flush compared to the other side.
