Flappy Paddles for Octy vRS?

Recommended Posts

I could manage without the paddles thats for sure. But given the option id go for DSG over a manual. Its an awesome box and so quick to get you moving.

I agree...:D

Even a 105 pd Octy 2 felt quite respectable equipped with DSG.

Has anyone ever driven a flappy paddle car? If you have you'll probably be of the same opinion as me - they're a gimmick that you can easily manage without.

Ah.Not just me that thinks this then.

Having said that,Golf GTI with DSG is meant to be quicker

That statement isnt entierly true for which I appologise.

"To package 2 clutches in limited space, BorgWarner decided to use multi-plate clutches which are far smaller in diameter than conventional clutches. Multi-plate clutches also allow finer control of engagement speed versus smoothness. Depending on driving style, computer can easily change the gearshift speed / smoothness setting. "

It actually has two multiplate clutches, not sure how long the service life it on one of these units or how you change it if it does wear out. Im hopefully going on a gearbox course at the begining of December so I should be more able to explain a bit better after that.

Theoretically, the lifespan should quite long, as the driver has no control over the clutches themselves. Maybe remapped diesel ones may suffer I suppose  .

I am very eager to try a new vrs with dsg, i must say. I drove a 105 pd with dsg a few weeks ago and was utterly amazed. Having test driven numerous poor attempts at flappy paddle shift, the worst being a stilo abarth. It really does seem the best of both worlds. You can eat your McDirt burger whilst cruising the streets one handed, or you can burn rubber through the drive thru whilsy making exceptionally precise and swift gearchanges to keep the momentum of the wheelspin going. :D

Right. Not seen one so I don't know but,I presumed there was a 'flap'either side. One to change up,one to change down?

If so,burger scoffing still quite difficult

You could leave it in automatic mode, steer with your knees, have a Big Mac on your left hand and a milkshake on the other

We had a friend in Harrisburg that steered his Dodge "van" with his knees while stuffing baccy in his pipe [trying to give up fags!]. I felt like getting out and walking.

I was told that no-one but the factort were allowed to touch DSG boxes, they were sealed units that would be replaced if faulty.

When I bought my Octy 2.0 DSG, I kept asking how much the clutch plate/service of the DSG would cost. They never did manage to find out but said the unit would be sent away for any work to s specialist facility.
