If I was offered your car or the Growler as a gift, I really don't which I would choose and I am a big Lancia fan too. I suppose it would depend on how well I think my fillings are held in (The Lancia was a little firm over Manchester cobbles)

Ouch, that's still early if it's a regular thing :( Mind you I did a full shift on Christmas eve and then drove up to my mums getting there around 05:00hrs :D At this rate we will be in sync with our sleep patterns. not sure who has the worst deal though  :time:

Finally got my joiners and clips and finished making my new vac lines. No change to the stalling when warm. Need to try a few more things now I've ruled that out.

New development on the speedo, I can hear the speedo pulses coming through a speaker!! So I assume that means an earth fault in its wiring. Still need to trace the wires and see exactly where they go, I don't think it's as simple as a ground, signal and switched live.

I tried tracing the wires to the speed sensor tonight with no success - talk about spaghetti! But then I dug through my documentation and found this. Which means I can run a new switched live and ground to it and see if it cures the problem.

Dash and various gearbox speed sensors removed for some troubleshooting with a friend's help help later this week.

Also I've decided to call it with the drive to Leadfoot - it's in two weeks and it's just not worth the risk. Even if I get the WoF by then the car will be unproven. Still planning to go, just in another car.

So I think I'll get the front bumper removed and sort out the things I need to there like headlight washers and broken intercooler mounts, plus I will get my silicone hoses soon so I can do those too.

I ordered a new set of HT leads today just in case.

Good news, the dash and sensor have been proven to work. Turns out the wiring diagram I was using was for a 1985 car and mine is a 1984 build. So I was testing the wrong pins!

I did some tinkering this morning and tested continuity from signal wire to dash and it works. So all of the parts have been proven to be functional outside the car. Confused now.
Haven't had time yet to re-fit and test again.

Are you still getting continuity if you move the engine bay part of the loom about (as if you were on/off the throttle Rob?.

Is it an edge connector in the board that has an area of degradation at all?.

Have you tried to measure resistance levels in the loom to compare with the OE spec?.

Has to be something odd to be intermitent rather than stone cold dead.

Love the pics of the car after the detail. This is becoming my favorite build thread, only other build thread I watch now is Binky on YouTube.

The speedo is working at last!
The problem was wiring after all. I thought I'd tested the wiring by connecting a switched live to the signal wire and putting a tester on the other end, where I got a 12v live.
But it turned out that somewhere the signal wire to the dash connector was hooked up to a switched live, and also connected to the speech synthesiser, so the pulses from the sender were being ingnored by the dash, but clicks were coming from Patrizia's speaker.
I decided to bin the lot and run a new live, earth and signal wire. And it's working!

I also sorted a separate switched live for the pin that powers the backlight on the odometer, which wasn't working. My mate swapped out the bulbs for LEDs in the holders, so it should last now. And it's readable .

I think I've sorted the idling issue too. A video from Gears and Gasoline about spark plugs reminded me that I changed them, and maybe they could be at fault, so I bought some new ones. Bosch weren't available so I went for the NGK equivalent.

Just now, RichardatWakefield said:

Hi Rob,

Am presuming this is the equivalent of our UK MOT test, but what does WOF stand for?

Richard.

Yes it's the MOT equivalent - Warrant of Fitness. Usually annual but I think my car is old enough to be in the six-monthly category.

Once I have a WoF I then need to buy a registration, which is equivalent to road tax, and I'm good to go! The rego includes portions to go to the fire services and a big chunk to cover ACC which is a sort of government-owned personal injury insurance.

New problems have arisen. The brake lights thing is new. Dodgy earth maybe. Water in headlight must be from it being jet washed. Brakes - will bleed them again and see.

It may have failed its WoF again, but it looked awesome doing it  The drive home was great, nice and smooth and pleasant to drive.
