Looking at a Fabia VRS mk II - few questions

Recommended Posts

These are factory fit wheels.. but good point I'll call Skoda & confirm what the bolts need to be.

Needs a new full set anyhow as the current ones are getting corroded.. want my 'new' car to be a stunning as possible!!

Lovely car! Really like the wheels too but they are definitely aftermarket.

Those are not Factory Fit White Gigaro on the car.

Andy had different wheels on.

Those are the same wheels it's wearing now, aren't they? Yes not Gigaro, but I thought the were fitted as new - will check this up!

As far as I am aware, all the vrs came from the factory with gigaro alloys as standard. I'm pretty much sure there were no other alloy options

That is correct Mk2 Fabia vRS come with Gigaro Alloys as standard, and options on Colours / Finish.

White Gigaro fitted as standard on a S2000, (the car in Question was a S2000 / vRS)

& is now on After Market wheels.

White, Dark Chrome, Black or Silver as Options or Standard Fit, and all these are Gigaro Alloys.

(Some did leave Dealerships with Trinity fitted, because they were swapped at Dealerships, not Skoda UK Approved though,

and some Ex Demos had Wheel Colours changed when refurbished.)

?

What tyres are on the car just now, are they 215/40 R 17's.   The non Standard tyre size?

The Alloys fitted are nice, and i do not think they are  the same off set as Gigaro.

Nice stance on the car.

?

What suspension is fitted as it is now, ?

Springs / Dampers and is there a Rear ARB fitted?

Rubber is 215-40-17 tyres

Think it's factory shocks but stiffer, lower 40mm springs all round. Rear ARB.

Nice firm ride makes my little boy laugh!

I'll call Skoda asap; think they told me white alloys were on this when newly delivered car - but maybe not these ones.

Agree there are def not Gigaro as I park next to one with those & are very different! (see my 'friends at work' thread)

Those Wheels have nothing to do with Skoda, no point calling Skoda.

Andy fitted them or they were fitted when he got the car.

Best get Locking wheel nuts to suit,  people do still steal nice wheels.

Declare all mods with the Insurance, including the make of wheels, because people still steal cars,

including Skodas.

The Car was delivered as a S2000.

(White Gigaro Alloys fitted.)

The owner that was selling it before Andy bought it spoke to me about the car.

I only found out it was the car Andy had when i met up with him.

The car is far from standard and i was impressed with it.

Not an Oil user, but in the distant past it might have been, or thought to be....

(Someone not able to check the oil level properly, car running original Map type thing.)

Just use Good Oil,  5w 40 Full Synthetic to VW 502 00. Use Good Spark Plugs,  i suggest DENSO.

A good Oil Filter, Super Unleaded Petrol,  good brake pads, the correct Air Filter for the Intake Fitted and all should be good.

Stay away from Skoda Dealerships Workshops, their Diagnostics and Software Updates, not required,

& do not let them touch the DSG and all should be good.

EDIT.

Loving them.

Heard from Andy.. They're Rota alloys

Yup re insurance gave them a lonnng list of modifications!  Take ages ringing around getting quotes !!!

Been practising my warm oil checking at home :)

Going to get it serviced by a REVO specialist www.mdmtechnik.co.uk/

Oh, what's an S2000?

Best just do a 'Cold Dip'.

Sat on the flat, stone cold, and you want the Oil at least at the top of the Cross Hatch.

Better above that.

Then there is also another,  you can do a JaboZuma Check.

Do the Cold Dip. then

Open the drivers door, put the key in, start the car, stop right away.  the Oil should be down, the oil was pumped up to the Oil Filter.

This level will likely be identical to a Hot Check once you have at least got the indicated oil above 50*oC likely 5 miles or more, better to 80*oC Plus. So more miles,

Stop, wait a few minutes, 3, or 4 or 5, and dip it.

It is amazing how many Skoda / VW / Seat / Audi trained technicians seem unable to get at least 3.6 Litres in

and no more than 4 litres and check the level correctly.

'Warm' is no use as a check.

Is 5w 40 the best oil to use?, I've been using 5w 30

The Recommended Oil and that used at a Dealership is going to be VW 504 00  5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life.

So if you get Free Services or are on Variable Servicing best go with that.

Some CAVE and less CTHE had Oil Use issues.

5 W 40 Full Synthetic helped some owners reduce Oil Use, and find that with good 5W 40 Full Synthetic OIl the engine runs a bit cooler

or when used hard the temp drops quicker back down to the ideal oil temps in the low 90's.

It is unproven and untested and just in my imagination as vxh26 will be along to tell you. Just my silly ideas.

But Castrol 5W 30 Long Life oil is sh!te when used in a Twin Charger.

Multi National / International Oil Producer and Worlds 2nd Biggest Manufacturer must know better than me,

personally i think the recommended oil is still sh!te.

If you are going Tracking, living in a hot country or the likes buy what suits that.

For me ASDA 5w 40 Full Synthetic to VW 504 00 is perfect, or from Tesco, or any other seller,

or Comma Oil.

After all they are all produced by Oil Refiners / Producers.

http://commaoil.com

(there is a passenger vehicle checker on the site.)

Mobil 1,  Fuchs etc etc are all produced by Oil Refiners / Producers and maybe you get what you pay for.

4 or 5 litres for £20 or less is what i pay and i change Oil regularly,

and buy Oil filters for £4.

(No point wasting money IMO.)

It is if you are going to be changing the oil soon as long as it is Full Synthetic.

But then you should not need to be topping up much.

Maybe best stick with topping up with what is already been used to Service the car,

then when you Change the Oil and Filter use the different grade oil.

Typo? I didn't think there were any 5W/40 oils to 504/007 spec. I'd be definitely interested in using one if there were.
