Vibration on idle (Dealership cannot find the problem)

Just bought a Skoda 2015 1.6 TDI DSG 81kw 109k miles (Full service History Dealership) and i have discovered that it’s having a vibration on idle sometimes,i have been to Skoda Dealership and they did the following work so far without fixing the problem:

First visit : They made a software update on the DSG gearbox 

 

Second visit : They changed fuel filter(not solved) , they have discovered that  cylinder 2 has a low compression and for that the car woould need 8 hours labour (£899) and only after they remove the top of the engine they will find the problem eventually and could need a new engine after that.Of course i have refused 

 

I really need some helpful advice what to do.And from where could be the problem .The car deives  perfectly and it’s pulling normal.

What Skoda model is it an Octavia?

Had the DSG already had the Service Campaign '34H5' or was that never done and just being done now?

 

Since it is a 2015 1.6TDI with Full Dealership Service History has it had the Emissions Fix so new Engine Management & a Flow Device fitted and then covered by the Skoda / VW 

Trust Building Measure 24 month Warranty / Guarantee that the fix will not kill your engine prematurely?

 

If so have Skoda / VW pay to get the fault diagnosed and then rectified.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure why you are asking for advice on the problem, the answer is in black and white.

 

Take it back from wherever you bought it if you can

The car was purchased from a private seller i have paid for diagnostic and they cannot find the problem,and about the dsg I don’t think it has ever a service or something as it sealed as i know..but the dealership sounds to me a little unprofessional as they cannot find the problem straight away 

Does anyone had a same situation?

Is it an Mk3 Octavia.  Best that your posts are in that section maybe.

Which country are you in?

 

Bought private does not make a difference with the VW Guarantee / Warranty from the Emissions Fix.

So was that done in the past 2 years.

 

The DQ200 DSG is Sealed. (But that never stopped the Oil being changed with the World Wide Recall on 2009-2012 DQ200 DSG's.)

It is a 'Service Campaign' i am talking about. Started in 2017 on some 2013-2015 DQ200 DSG's.

A Software update required due to pressure / heat problems and leaks. 

But that is not your cars issue unless it is a DSG fault as well as an engine issue.

Yes it a Octavia,

I’m from UK, what is your advice to do now?i can’t afford to pay £899 at dealership to take off the top of the engine and just the ln they will know exat what to do next(could need a new engine they said) i think they are a bit unprofessional to be honest

@Darck11 - I repeat, have they done a wet compression test? A dry test will tell you that the compression is low, but not whether the problem is cylinder head (including gasket) or piston rings. If the CR rises on a wet test, that means it's rings.

I think you need to visit another dealer, or another Skoda specialist garage.  The fact that this place did two compression tests and one showed no problem, the other showing significant problems, leads me not to have confidence in their work.

 

Try to answer Skoffski's question about the EA189 emissions fix. Were you asked to take it in to a dealership for this?

I don’t know Sir , i  came to Dealership cause local garage cannot find the problem,but it’s seems Dealership cannot to..I don’t know if that work has been done.

basically the Skoda garage did :

 

updated DSG gearbox software and they said is fine ,gave me the car..wasn’t fixed

 

second time they said it could be the fuel filter,they changed it..wasn’t that the problem

they have done that cylinder compression test and discovered that is to low there and they need to take off the top of the engine to see where is the real problem and after that they can provide me an exact symptom.(Could need a new engine)

what would you do guys in this situation?

@Darck11 - As upthread, a single dry compression test tells you if the compression is acceptable or not. You then need to perform an additional wet test to identify further where the problem is, if the compression is not acceptable.

1. Speak to the individual from the private sale and ask him if he'll take the car back. It's defective.

2. If he refuses (and he has every right to) ask if he'll contribute to the £899 engine strip.

3. Take it to another non-Skoda garage for a third opinion.

4. Cut your losses, sell / part exchange the car and buy a different one, preferably one from a garage / dealer and with a warranty.

5. Keep driving the car until it expires.
