Took delivery of ex-demo VRS last week.

Apart from a fairly naff experience with the main dealer who sold it to me as a distance sale, so far so good.  I'm still waiting on a few smart repairs etc for cosmetic issues they omitted to tell me about, but wondered if anyone else has had the following two issues:

1.) Door sill / kick plate lettering worn off - you can literally rub it off with a finger hence it looks very tatty - awaiting replacement parts from the dealer to fix this.

2.) Cupholder with some of the springy arms retracted and not coming out - does anyone have a quick fix for this?  (And yes, that picture is how clean it was when it was delivered...)

Not had any major issues with infotainment or other systems so far

Wow! I would expect a demo vehicle to be as new..

They are just used cars that will have done 3,000 miles or had 3 months use or more. They can be Demonstrator / Ex Management / Media or courtesy cars so used hard or looked after and presentation is only as good as the people prepping these used cars.  One might expect as new. But then if you want that just do not accept something like prepped by Kerbside Motors.

@BobeI don´t know about the cup holder but i can 100% say based on my recent experience that the Door sill / kick plate is utter garbage. I had mine replaced under warranty after about a month of usage and the new replacement plates started to wear off lettering right after first handwash (no extreme chemicals used etc.).

What is PPF?  (sorry to be dumb)

Paint protection film - My use is a bit unorthodox, but it prolongs the longevity and most good ones are self-healing if properly applied and maintained.

Hi GiantKiwi. I looked up PPF and it is a very expensive product normally used for wrapping vehicles. Do you have a contact who would provide a small amount for applying to sills and the boot lip? If so I'd be grateful for your help. Thanks Jim.

Unfortunately, you can't just up and buy it in small amounts. Only authorised retailers can fit most of them. I have a friend who runs a business who will do it for me, on an adhoc basis. I understand from him, that some companies will do it, but it will be quite expensive (I pay roughly £200 for just both sills and a boot scuff protection layer being done, but this does include the time outlay for proper surface preparation).

Easily purchased in small quantities.  eBay Amazon or others.  PPF tape or sheets Or helicopter tape.    From £1.99. Prep properly, dewax etc. Alcohol wipes. Also readily available.  Or even nail varnish remover.     Advice here from Kerbside autos.   Car sprayer and refinisher retired, mostly.      I Recommended using  3M PPF line, knife less tape. With the PPF you are applying.

MTB riders have been using 3M helicopter (or leading edge - as it’s used to protect the leading edge of helicopter blades) tape for ages to protect bike frame paintwork against chips and scratches. I’ve used it before and it works really well, you can get sections of it on eBay quite easily in a variety of widths.

Done properly lasts a damn sight longer than DIY, especially on embossed crap. Helicopter tape is nothing more than thick sellotape and leaves residue, it's nothing like modern PPF. If you want to go use that, sure go right ahead, but if people are managing to rub the paint off these kickplates, the helicopter tape adhesive will lift it as well.

Interesting -- got my Mk IV in early March 2021 and yes have odd electrical issues with the car. The ABS has a bit of a mind of its own - without being too close to another vehicle it will operate itsself;

Odd system warning lights come on now and then but mean nothing as the next time I turn the ignition on they have gone.  The infotainment system jams on the LOADING USER PROFILE which then

locks up the whole thing.

VRS / 4000 miles from new.  SOS goes off at least twice a week / Changes from MPH to KPH randomly / Sat nav has the speed limit, but the ACC is unable to pick it up and randomly changes (from 70 to 19 with nothing around!!) / media system makes a regular pop pop sound / KESSY unreliable / resets user.  Twice gone into electrical meltdown - lights flashing, won't start or do anything.

Got fed up of thinking software updates would sort, so have booked into the dealer.  Simply clever, simply does not deliver!

My 4th Skoda and would not recommend, coming from a 67 3008 - I'd swap back tomorrow.

Get rid, it's what I did. I got more than I paid for mine by selling to another Skoda dealer.

I bought a 2021 Mk 4 e-tec Octavia as I was sold on the extra tech over my brilliant '17 plate Octavia. Six months later after endless problems with this new tech, i'm a very happy owner of a '21 plate Karoq 1.5 Sportline. Everything on the Karoq just works. The Octavia was a waste of money. Interestingly my local dealer has said they have had many complaints re the Mk4 octavia

Just returned my lease 1.0tsi First Edition, 99% perfect with only very occasional SOS popping and no infotainment issues after a few updates.  Was that impressed, I've bought a low mileage mk3 vRS 🙂

Morning all,

Just joined today as I’m getting very frustrated with my 72 plate VRS manual estate.

Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely loving driving the car but there are things that are worrying me. Having gone from three previous L&K Superb Estates which were absolutely brilliant, and everything worked perfectly apart from the last one, which was a DSG 4x4, loved the car but I hated the DSG!

I’ve managed to go back to manual thank God, although even that is a slight problem where first, second and third are a little clunky/sticky with issues getting it into first sometimes and certainly worse than my wife’s 17 year old, 120,000 mile Mini Cooper S!! The dealership has checked it twice and don’t see a problem with it! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Then we come to the infotainment system, which it seems you’re all aware of, but it has shocked me that this has been going on since 2021 if not before! I cannot believe this is not sorted yet!

I’ve had the usual random rebooting issue and the initial problem, where the keys aren’t recognised and can take up to a minute and a half to 2 minutes once you then manually select the profile! At which point you can’t do anything with the car as I can’t physically drive the car in my wife’s position and you can’t even put anything into satnav as it won’t allow you to input anything whilst driving!! So have to sit on the driveway for two or three minutes annoying the neighbours with your car running.

I’ve also had an issue where only the middle third of the screen is showing and nothing can be done, even turning the car off and on doesn’t sort it out! I’ve also had an issue with the MODE button (yes, the actual physical button!) doesn’t work for the whole journey!

An another issue, which I believe is well known, including Skoda, is the wireless charging! The two issues I have, is that on an hour and a half journey, it only charged the phone 10%! And in doing so, also makes the phone so hot that the phone shuts down due to temperature!

The other issue is the fact that it constantly comes up with the black banners across the whole screen saying that it is charging the phone and then minutes or five minutes or half an hour later (it’s quite random) it comes up with another black banner that is even bigger asking me to empty the storage tray! This is seemingly a right hand cornering issue!

One question I have - does anyone know which iPhones works okay in the wireless charging tray? I was told by the dealership that the iPhone 11, 12 and 13 weren’t really compatible! Having paid for the option I’m a little bit miffed that there wasn’t a disclaimer about the option. They didn’t mention the iPhone 14, so I was wondering if this works fine in the wireless charging tray without overheating? I’m interested in potentially getting the iPhone 14 Pro Max as this might stop it from sliding to the left and causing the black banner asking me to empty the tray!!

Does anyone else have issues with the manual gearbox?

I can’t wait for some replies!!

Welcome to the Briskoda forums.

I’m pleased you like the car and totally understand your frustration with the infotainment system. The bugs are taking too long to iron out and it takes a while to get used to the tech.

For the drivers seat, save your position to a memory, then when opening the door just press that button, the seat should move without the ignition on - if it hasn’t already.

I also suggest experimenting with the voice control for the satnav if you can’t set a destination before driving off. The voice control isn’t foolproof, but does work. After two years I’m still learning the best way to set it but getting there.

Voice control is great for radio, media (usb stick), and climate control.

To charge my iPhone 14 Pro I use the MagSafe charger in a rear USB-C port.

My manual box is a bit clunky going into 2nd, but much better when it’s warmed up.

To answer the question I would think that 90 percent of Octavia Mk4s are receiving visible faults.

Mine is a 2021 vRS Combi 21.5K miles.

When I first drove the car the handling and steering were a bit vague. I had it four wheel aligned both rear wheels were tracked correctly but pointing slightly to the Left and the Front Right wheel was toed in too much. I got rid of the stock Bridgestones and fitted 4 Michelin Cross climate 2 tyres as we were heading into winter. The handling particularly the steering was still vague. To be honest I don't think that Cross Climate 2 tyres are well suited to the Octavia MK4.

In March I took the car to a specialist and got (Factory) Traffic Awareness fitted and the Farting Hippo Exhaust Soundaktor turned off.

I've just fitted Michelin PS5 tyres on to OZ Racing wheels the car drives a whole lot better now.

Its just 3 years old and I have extended the warranty for 2 more years as I feel its likely to suffer some sort of expensive electrical / software problem. It also comes with 2 services, MOT, AA Breakdown.

I've just had to get the wheels stripped and powder coated. The inside recess behind the spokes was lacking paint, consequently corrosion and peeling was underway. Stone chips according to Skoda!

Currently I get these errors:-

Wipers Failed But everything seems ok.

Crash Display in RED in place of the rev counter warning

Limited Front Stability

Lane Departure error

The above clear after a stop, park and re-start the car.

USB media player stopped working after the latest upgrade over the Internet its now working, RESULT?
