what is everyone getting mpg wise? First tankful, on brimming measurements, 48mpg mixed A road use and its been cold. Still only 13k on clock - is this about right? (70bhp)

[My 1.4 80 in a Fabia Estate didn't start delivering decent economy until it reached 20k, so a bit to go yet... Its a small(ish) engine in a large(ish) car so you are doing ok so far... I'm getting mid 50s out of my 1.9 on 16k, btw!

I'm getting around the 53 mpg mark from my 80bhp in mixed driving conditions but thats on the cars computer so it may not be totally accurate. Its only got 8k on the clock so far but its been the same since I bought it with 2.5k on the clock.

Cheers.

but thats on the cars computer so it may not be totally accurate.

When I checked mine it was about 7% over, as was the 2007 Fabia before it, though the 2001 Fabia was spot on!

mine is accurate within about .01 of an mpg.

I wonder if its the wheel/tyre size that does it?

I have tested my 1.4 TDI 80 many, many times I have never managed to get more than 720 miles per tank. Now thats filling it up to the very lip of the 55 litre tank with some fumes left in (yes with shaking the air bubbles out) saddo I know, its also driving steadfastly at no more than 60 mph, being in 5th by 30mph , taking it out of gear when coming to/or stopping at roundabouts before braking! and coasting down as many hills as possible. 55-56 ( up to neck ) litre into gallons according to good old google is 15.78 ish gallons = 45.62 mpg , now thats the maths but I do believe its nearer 54mpg as according to its on board trip computer its my average, only real way to check is to keep spare can in boot and run it dry? .....maybe not my luck would be at night in dark and chucking it down

720 miles/ 55 litres = 13.09 per litre

x4.454 factor = 59.4 mpg

bet thats made you a bit happier...

Indeed, 720miles from 55 litres = 60mpg near as dammit.

Try NOT taking the car out of gear, momentum will keep the engine running without using fuel, by letting the engine idle itself it has to use fuel!

I have an iPhone app that automatically does the conversion, but it's always almost identical to the car's readout.

The penalty of needing an automatic because of a gammy left knee, unavailability of an auto deisel, and living on an island with short, stop/start journeys, I only get about 270 to 280 miles from a tank, probably 300 if it went to the very bottom. that's about 25 to 27 mpg.

When I'm over there, I regularly get 36mpg+.

Calomax, I wonder if they will introduce a diesel auto, I too would be interested... my youngest daughter found she couldn't handle the gear changes and is now learning in an auto, having driven manuals all my life its a revelation just how easy it is to drive!

My dealer said that the diesel autos on the bigger Skodas are DSG, and that the extra cost would be too high on the smaller ones. But who knows, it could come when the Roomster is updated as I believe some of the the engine options are changing.

Anyway I intend to keep mine for a long time so I'll be sticking with the petrol. Shame though as the 1.9 diesel would be better for towing my caravan.

We had already got my wife an auto because she has a gammy left knee so it was sensible to get one when we changed mine last summer. I wouldn't want to go back to a manual now though, even with the higher fuel consumption.

I've yet to figure how they work that one out... you can get a dsg box in both the Fabia and Roomster, but only with the petrol engine... is it so much more expensive to offer it with the diesel?!

We have to change every three years, but hopefully the 1.6 diesel will be out by then, I'll just have to wait and see what the gearbox options are!

seconded you are actually using more fuel by letting the engine idle instead of coast down, on overrun there is no fuel being used at all but putting it into neutrol is using fuel and making more work for the brakes

on overrun there is no fuel being used at all

if the fuel cut off completely then the engine would stop... end of... one the pd diesels there is always a baseline amount of fuel going through the unit injector irresspecitve of what the ecu is telling it to do...

The auto box on the Roomster, and probably the Fabia, is a torque converter box. But there's a thread giving the info on the facelifted Roomsters which indicates that the DSG will only be available on the 1.2 petrol engine.

I take it that'll be the TSi rather than the HTP engine!

The Roomster will be facelifted at the same time as the Fabia and will be presented at the Geneva motorshow next month. Production schedule (stolen from a Czech forum) as follows:

Week 12

- End of production pre-facelift version

- End of production of the engine 1.4 TDI PD 51 kW

- End of production of the engine 1.4 TDI PD 59 kW

- End of production of the engine 1.9 TDI PD 77 kW

Week 13

- Launch of production facelift version

- Launch of production of the engine 1.6 TDI CR 66 kW (90BHP) 5M

- Launch of production of the engine 1.6 TDI CR 77 kW (105BHP) 5M

Week 16

- Launch of production of the engine 1.2 TSI 63 kW (85BHP) 5M

- Launch of production of the engine 1.2 TSI 77 kW 5M (105BHP) & 7A (DSG)

Week 20

- Launch of production of the engine 1.2 TDI CR 55 kW (75BHP) 5M

Week 22

- Launch of the production version of the Roomster GreenLine 1.2 TDI 55 kW 5M
