Milltek Exhaust question

Featured Replies

Hello,

Is it worth purchasing a whole turbo back exhaust or just the sports cat and downpipe for my 2.0TFSI? I have looked on the superchips website and it mentions on the stage 2 map that it would recommend a good sports cat and downpipe. There is no mention of a good cat back exhaust. I am wondering if it is like my old RS Focus. Where the restriction lies in the down pipe / cat section and the replacement of the back section offered no improvement other than sound. The reason why I ask is that I want to keep the car as stock as possible on the outside, but get a bit more from the engine. Would I be better saving the cash for the cat back and investing it on other areas of my car?

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers Matt

first things first is your car remapped, if not then dont go and buy bluefin is my first reccomendation, go REVO or shark performance.

i had bluefin on my vRS @ stage 1, 2 and 2+.

Stage 1 was ok, but the delivery of stage 2 and 2+ was rubbish. Very on/off in its delivery for want of a better phrase. bluefin seem to have done a really good job on remaps for the K04 turbo'd TFSI golfs and cupras, but on our k03 turbo'd TFSI there seems to be a lot of people with very similiar experiences to me.

timmyboy on here is running bluefin stage 2+ at the moment, but is considering a change after having a go in bens shark stage 2. his stage 2+ made 251hp or JKMs rollers which is pretty substantially below what is expected.

The exhaust.

@ stage 2 the only thing required is the downpipe and cat. thats all i had initially @ stage 2, i then upgraded my intake which made a healthy difference. since then i have fitted the CAT back exhaust as well but that made no noticable performance difference what so ever.

id say get yourself a downpipe and CAT, a stage 2 map and an intake and you'll be pushing 260hp/290Ibft then. muckipup on here has just done all of that recwently and seems very happy with it, he has also just stumped out on an uprated HPFP for some stage 3 action as well.

another mod id serously reccomend is uprated anti roll bars. they make a massive improvment on these cars. by far my favourite handling mod so far

Thank you for your reply. I have been in touch with Sharkperformance and am going there on Thursday, as I work in Mansfield and its a stone throw away from me. Im going to have a look and see about the downpipe and sport cat. I want to keep the stock air box and have fitted a K&N panel filter. That has made a diffference to the stock map and it revs a bit more eagerly now, compared with the new paper filter Skoda fitted when I bought the car. As funds allow I will do it in stages. First the down pipe and then the remap OR just the remap first and get it altered when I get the downpipe? Though I am interested in the anti roll bars. Im not too bothered about lowering etc just improving the handling.

Cheers Matt

thats a good way of doing it, and being in mansfield is dead handy for the shark performance map as well. i travelled from kent to get mine done by ben.i reccomend getting the STS handset as well. its dead handy bit of kit.

btw the miltek is quite expensive. my DP was £450 from pipewerx which is not to shabby and it made a lovely deeper burble., blueflame and piper also do downpipes that will undercut miltek for price.

another very good mod to look for is also the uprated HPFP, as you will be able to get alot more mid range torque.

Though I am interested in the anti roll bars. Im not too bothered about lowering etc just improving the handling

great mod with lots of options. id consider the whiteline anti lify kit to ompliment them as well.

i reccomend getting ben to take you out in his vRS, you'll be suitably impressed,

his stage 2+ made 251hp on JKMs rollers

251.4 thank you very much :)

I must admit, if I was starting from scratch with an un-molested VRS sitting outside, based on a trip out in the Shark-mobile the other day I'd get a down-pipe and sports cat, CAI and a stage 2 Shark map - and leave it at that.

If I was looking for much past the 270bhp mark I think I'd start with a K04 car in the first place - S3s and Cupras are hitting the low £14k area now for example.

my apologies timmy lol.

if i had known about the extra tunability of the k04 i would have had a cupra. i considered one before but just thought it was a remapped version of the vRS engine, not a different turbo.

@Matt - you can probably tell from the sigs that Simon and I are on a similar wavelength when it comes to mods so it will be no surprise to hear that I agree with what he is saying. I did not bother lowering the car but that was just a personal choice. I also stuck with just a DP/cat and am very happy with that decision. You certainly won't regret going with Ben @ Shark as his maps offer great performance withouty compromising the safety of your engine.

Back to Si's point - don't underestimate what that anti-roll bar will do for you. To me, it is the most important mod after a Stage 1 map.

Matt, beware of Simon, he's got good advice but he'll cost you a lot of money as you slide into the slippery slope of TFSI mods :giggle:

here to help :giggle: on a side note im considering ditching the DP for a decat section instead, ;)

Im going for stage 1 to begin with. See how I get on with that. If I want more power, I can get a DP/Sport cat fitted and get the map altered by Shark Performance to suit. Seen the Pipe werx on ebay for £468, so I think I would go for one of those rather than the milltek.

I see a slippery slope starting again lol

if your interested in an intake i can help you spend some oney on 3 different second handones i know are for sale.

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11460.0 ITG intake(just requires a differnt down pipe to the turbo(only cheap from ITG(i have the vRS heat shield required spare if anyone want its)

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=10948.0 HKS intake sel for £500 but i reckon he'kll take alot less than £250 for it

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=11010.0 BSH true seal intake and DV relocation kit and DV. £260

You can strike the BSH kit off the list - it's now sitting in my spare room :)

I wanted the DV relocation stuff and buying the whole lot was the most economic way of doing it.

I'll have the Tru Seal CAI up for sale here when I find 5 mins - it's unused.

good man. persuade muckipup to buy it. hes on a modding craze at the moment and needs an intake in his life. lol

Yeah,

I was put off that because I didn't really need the DV relocation stuff therefore £260 was a lot when I saw that Dubtek does the standard kit for £199. I am in the process of doing a 'Blue Peter job' with a cheapo pipe and a not so cheapo Apexi filter and some home-made heat shielding. If that plan goes T.U. then we may be able to talk.

Very nice indeed. Now get some Collinite 476s and get those rain drops really beading on the surface ;)

I had that GardX stuff applied to give it some protection. The dirt just washes off with no effort! But then it appears back on again with no effort too :dull:

I went to Shark Performance today and was very impressed by Ben's Octavia. It pulls all the way to the red line and in any gear. I was very impressed with the in gear acceleration and in 5th and 6th gear. I have my car booked in for a stage 1 map next thursday and cant wait! :D

Go for the full system. If you want to take the car past stage 1 and onto stage 2 it is worth it in the long run. I have a 3" all the way back from the turbo, no looking back.

stage 1 and 2 cars are sloooooow!!!!!!!! :giggle:

seriously though the in gear improvements once mapped are huge. i switched my car back to standard for a 780 mile drive back to uk from germany, and ended up putting the map back on because the car felt like it was broke in comparison.

I might go for the stage 2 later in the year, but I will see how I get on with the Stage 1 map first.
