MDI Retrofit - help

Featured Replies

I posted this on the ICE forum but had no responses.

Hi looking for some expert help. I have just got a new Superb, it was already built at the factory so couldn't specify any extras, hence no MDI to connect the IPOD to. I have been looking at the forums to see what I need to buy so I can retro fit the MDI to the installed "SWING" radio.

I have got the final lead from the IPOD to the socket & also bought from Kaufatec the Music interface Harness (part number 36418). Obviously I am missing the MDI "box". Is this available as a part by it self, if so does anyone know the part number.

Cheers for any help.

This is something I may end up doing at some point as I didn't order MDI as a factory fit option. I'm hoping that the SD card slot and HDD in the Columbus are going to be sufficient. The SD card functionality certainly seemed ok when I demoed the Superb a couple of times for 24 hours.

The following two links should point you in the right direction:

Looks like the hardest bit is the VAG-COM recode, but from the description at www.drbig.co.uk that might be a redundant step.

David

MDI retrofit is relatively straight forward, however I am not sure the swing headunit supports the MDI as it usually needs the bolero or columbus headunit.

My price list effective 1 April 2010 lists the Swing head unit as standard fit to the 'S' and Greenline models and the MDI as a factory fit option across the whole range. However that is not to say that the price list isn't telling fibs as it also lists Hill Hold control as a standard feature of the 3.6 v6 (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/162765-hill-hold-control/).

...

Ok a bit more investigation; operation instructions for MDI on the Swing headunit are on page 9 of the current manual (https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Superb/06-2010/Radio/B6_Superb_Swing_CarRadio.pdf).

Best regards
