Wheel colour change?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting my wheels done on the Octy, just to be a bit different and I think this colour will suit the car well...what does everyone think?

I have used these guys before, they did a top notch job on my s2000.

I would be grateful for peoples opinions.

Cheers

They would look excellent imo, I was looking at that finish myself, very similar to the mk1 L&K alloy.

BTW, you're a mug if you pay list price at The Wheel Specialist. Their work is good, but they do charge to much for it. If you use them, get a discount.

Pristine did my CHs and the finish is stunning on them. I would use them again. Only trouble is, I don't know what the colour was called. :giggle:

That price has just made my mind up!! :o I'm off to Halfrauds from a can or 2 of anthracite grey paint!

lol! i just did a quote for mine and it came to £379!

The colour looks great vtec_to_vrs. Well worth doing and Id like to mine the same or to grey when I get it.

Do you have to inform the insurance of the change when you do it??

Would love to see the new Neptune 18' wheels sprayed black or anthracite on a Candy white vRS just to see how it looks. :smirk:

do it!

btw my wheel colour (graphite) cost only 188 quid incl the vat but thats for painting, rather than powder coating.. and they only did the face, not the inside of the wheel.

Wega can u shed a little more light on that wheel job? What exactly has been done Who does it and costs etc ;)

Cheers mate

Depending on where you are in the country, City Powder Coaters Ltd (Birmingham) have done some powder coating for Steevie Wonder's vRS and he highly recommends them - see here they are quoting just £30 per wheel up to 20" to:

Remove tyres

Chemical strip the wheel

shotblast

sand

powder coat

lacquer

refit tyre

and balance the wheel

This seems an absolute steal to me, they can also do custom colours or finishes for an extra £5, or polished rims for another £20.

I am very tempted to get my winter wheels done there in the next few weeks (despite being told that they don't really need doing - i have not got them yet, as my dad collected them for me)

I have Zeniths refurbished in Shadow Chrome (darker than The Wheel Specialist's Smoked Chrome) on my silver car. I reckon these would also look good on a white car - better than black IMHO

Cheap that for a retail price, especially for larger wheels. Assuming their powder finish is good, that sounds excellent, but doesn't sound like they lathe / fill damage for that so your wheels would want to be in fairly decent nick.

The £20 offer for wheels without tyres is very good indeed.

that one would be worth me driving to Birmingham to get it done if they can do it in the same day. Bit of a drop in price to £120 from £370 odd so it would be handy to see if anyone else has had their wheels done there.

I know, especially as i have just bought 5 wheels without tyres

When you get your wheels back from being powder coated, always check the finish in all areas of each wheel carefully. Look out for any containments stuck in the coating and look out for any areas of volcanic pin prickiness. There's a lot to get right for a perfect powder coating job - surface prep, powder application, oven temp, bake time, etc. and any powder coating shop will get it wrong from time to time, so check and if you find a defect, get them to do it again for free or get a discount.

I'm more than happy to pay the price for the wheel specialist's work as I is by far the best job I have had done (on my s2000).

I have used other companies before and the finsih was not very good at all :(

I think smoked chrome is going to be the way forward! :D

Think I might do the wheels on my next one, might get the roof wrapped too.

What ya think?

Dan's just phoned up enquiring about the £20 a wheel offer and they said kerbing not a problem.
