Fabia mk1 Heater stuck on !

Featured Replies

B) Hi All, Just thought I would post a quick guide on how to find the possible faulty flap motors when your heater blows hot all of the time when turned from the cold setting even after resetting them with VCDS, first you have to remove the glove box (unplug light) and trim underneath, on the LH side near the NS wing you will find the air control flap motor held in place with a screw in the bottom http://s438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/?action=view&current=IMG_4919.jpg please note how the cogs line up with their markers for refitting, I stripped down the motors only to find they were OK and it looks as though its the potentiometers that act up with dirt on thier tracks. The temperature control motor is harder to get to as its hidden behind the cabin filter http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/IMG_4927.jpg[/img] and I removed the centre console trim for access (big job) http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/IMG_4982.jpg you unclip the motor by prising out the plastic bottom right, again I cleaned the track by squirting in some switch cleaner http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/IMG_4933.jpg I also found another potentiometer on the back of the heater/air con control panel and cleaned that as well http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/IMG_4956.jpg the potentiometers are circular and you prize up the edge of the plastic cover with say a pin and squirt some switch cleaner inside, the control panel has a small fan on it to pull air over a thermister to be able to sense cabin temperature http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq103/sparky2/IMG_4946.jpg (sorry lads had a drinky poos will resume tomm )

B) Update - It started acting up again and I had to clean the centre motor potentiometer but its only a matter of time before it finally fails, there is a Bosch number on it so it might be cheaper going down that route. cheers - Stuart
