Paint and Laquer Flaking - DRL Surrounds

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was washing and waxing my car this morning and found the paint around the DRL looks like it has been stripped off!

The left hand side one is completely gone, whilst the left hand side is growing dark, looks burnt actually!

I will post photoes but Flickr is not working at the moment. Might be a sign that my Yeti is reaching the teenage rebellious stage and is putting on eye liners!

Cheers

Has anyone had a similar problem with their Yeti or any previous cars they had? The bumper didn't seem to have any primer (is that needed?) under the paint and it doesn't look like a stone chip strip, because the other side is deteriorating, turning black etc. Any ideas?

Hmmmmmm, not seen that before. emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Any chance of some pictures of each side showing the paint damage?

Yup pictures on original post.

Hi,

not seen this on a Yeti but have come across issues with paint in the Octavia II forum, one of which involved paint flaking from the lower edge of the front bumper in a similar way. Believe they had to have a full bumper respray under warranty

Best advise would be to visit the dealer.

Thanks for the reply, not keen on resprays, but that seems inevitable.

Just did a search on the forum and found the problem, the laquer seems to be flaking of in the Octavia, whilst mine seem to be burnt? Not sure if its any link with the DRL, thought not!

Are you sure it isn't the heat rising from the DRL's weakening the paint?

I have thought about it, but it isn't that hot and the P13W bulbs meant to be energy efficient.

John Good from Skoda Customer service has been helpful and asked me to contact MSB, which also took some photoes for warranty. Should hear back soon about what Skoda warranty would do.

Looks similar to mine in that the paint hasnt adhered to the bumper correctly.

As far as warranty I took pictures of the fault and emailed them to local dealer who passed them on to Skoda Uk for clearance. Straight forward warranty claim but would recommend you tell them if its not up to scratch then it will be coming back!

Always a pain as to me a respray is never as good a colour match as the original and in my case the front bumper had to be done twice as they did a poor job first time around. The clear coat separated from the paint which left me with a matt white front bumper! So second time (3rd inc original) around it is better although if you wanted to be critical there is a slight difference in colour and you can see previous stone chips where the paint has sunk.

Have you inspected other parts of the car?

Sure if you get a good paint shop there will be nothing to get concerend about.

Good luck

Thanks! I saw your post, I remember it was laquer that was flaking? Hope its all good now!

I only visited the dealer yesterday and hopefully will hear back from them soon. I find it hard to see how Skoda warranty could ignore this problem. I have had a look around other parts of the car, seems find, aprt from some speckles from the infamous rear door paint problem, but mine is alright.

Will post back.

Just heard back from the dealer and Skoda has authorised the repair - S3 or D3 repair or something along that line, basically not a full bumper respray but a localise respray.
