Refurbing my Spiders

Hey all :)

Here are my newly purchased 2nd hand spiders that need a little TLC!

IMG529-1.jpg

I've started to give them a bath, and a srub, some of the tar hasn't come off, but I think that the general condition is at least 80% decent on each wheel, I think wheel 2 & 3 seem to be the worst ones...

so here is 1-4

Wheel 1 easy to repair I recon

Dirt after wheel 1! I put an old towel on the base not to scratch the bath lol...

Wheel 2 ( I think this is the worst one)

Wheel 3 (2nd worst off)

Wheel 4 (I recon the least abused!)

So now their dry, I'm going to wait until tomorrow to get some touch up paint, and some filler....

I'll stick to silver for now.

Would you say Skoda's Brilliant Silver is a perfect match to the wheel paint?

I need to fix these by wednesday and with a budget!

Thanks for reading, any tips & suggestions would be appreciated, and I'll post more pics as I progress! :)

Thanks,

Leon

Why not just repaint the whole wheels/faces rather than arse about with touch up paint?

Would I need to sand and prime it down to bare metal? I thought the touch up idea was an easy solution :)

You'll get a patchy finish then, that's the problem.

Bare minimum I would do is key the faces/sides of spokes/dishes, fill any scratches etc, sand down, then primer, silver, then clear coat on top. At leas then the bits you see straight away are a nice even finish.

Thats a good Idea to do the faces for now, I'll see what I can do and I'll post updates tomorrow, thanks Babs!

Right, change of plan!! decided the worst place with damage was the spokes, I think it'll look good....

so!!! I've prepped the wheel and masked the parts that I won't be touching...

IMG_1617.jpg

Before Priming, and between each spray, I used a heat gun to keep the alloy warm so the paint stuck nicely, and avoided any moisture getting in between each coat... kept my legs warm too!

IMG_1618.jpg

Sanded, and primer done, 2 coats done it nicely :)

IMG_1619.jpg

IMG_1625.jpg

Break!!! :D

IMG_1626.jpg

and then to the paint, 5 coats in total....

IMG_1627.jpg

IMG_1628.jpg

I made a little mistake when it started to splat :(

So tomorrow task, prep other 3 wheels....and then wet and dry the last wheel, then lacquer the rest when their ready!!!

I won't be doing the masked areas, ad they seem to be alright, and I can do them at a later date if they bug me!! :)

Quite happy with the results so far after looking at the photos, I've noticed the filler didn't quite fill the scuffs, but....I hope to wet and dry this down and it should even out once the lacquer dries!

Whats that attachment on top of the paint can? Didn't realise you could get "spray guns" for regular cans of paint?! :D

it clips on the top and allows you to *aim* more accurately and control the spray flow instead of on and off! B)

Hat off to you buddy. Weather it's to others taste or not, not everyone can do that! Nice work! For me personally, I think they look brilliant mate. Still OEM but personalised, congratulations on a cracking job
