Still unsure about steering

Featured Replies

As per previous posts I am still unsure about the steering on my vRS. I recently fitted a full set of Superpro bushes and farb bushes, I have had wheels aligned, checked tyre pressures. It was also suggested the car might have had a whack in its past but I checked this out and it hasn't.

The best way to describe the steering is its like when your driving on the motorway and it's a bit windy so you have to correct the steering a little as the car is buffeted but I am doing these corrections constantly. I have had a good look underneath and nothing seems loose.

Any suggestions as to what else I can change or check.

Cheers

Had it up in the air and gone over it. Also had all the carpets etc out of the boot to check for repairs and the front bumper off but no sign of anything, if it has had a whack it's the best repair I have ever seen. Also did an insurance check and the was no claim made on it. I know it doesn't mean it's 100% it hasn't been whacked but everything points to it being ok.

Also if steering was out from a whack wouldn't wheel alignment have picked this up?

Dampers gone maybe?

Or at least 1 could have gone throwing the geometry out??

Or even had a broken spring in the past and renewed with the wrong type for your car.

Check steering rack mounts as a possibility

Get 4 wheel alignment done with print out and post it here and I will tell you what is what. Many times simple toe adjustment might help. What tyre pressure you use?

If you have changed the front anti roll bar bushes I guess you must have dropped the subframe off to do it, in which case I would suggest that when you refitted the subframe it's been put back slightly off centre from where it should be, there is an amount of adjustment of the position of the subframe and if it's off to one side you be adding positive camber one side and negative the other side which will give you the odd wandering steering sensation where it's hard to keep it in a straight line.

I'm told there is a place in Leeds that is very good at aligning Fabia's. The owner/operator posts on here. I'm beggared if I can remember his/her username though.

I will give you a small hint... :giggle:

Good, you're here already. Any good at aligning TT's? ;)

No problems. Same pricnipals. I treat each vehicle individual so if I got a chance to road test it I can tell you a lot. I dont make promisies but I always look for solutions. Check is free. I know its a long drive for you but if you decide to do it: (I can proudly say - its all my work B) )

That mean its really bad. Those tyres wont survive a lot. :'(

Will also be in touch in the summer when I've had new bushes fitted all round. I too have a degree of wandering to the left.
