What mods?

Featured Replies

So, after a not-so-good experience with a Mondeo ST (http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/225818-what-car-should-i-buy/page__p__2654944#entry2654944) and a recent look at Baker21's Superb :p I've had a rethink.

I'll be keeping the Superb but want to throw some money at it – suspension, remap, possible SMF conversion. Does anyone have any sound advice on the best bits and pieces?

I'm looking at the Bilstein B6 and Eibach spring option, but not sure about the SMF. Any advice appreciated

on the SMF, unless you are going to do well over 100,000 miles and wear the replacement clutch you might as well stick with a DMF. My Superb is a Taxi and it wont rearly be much difference in price to put another DMF in as I wont be having it when the replacement clutch would need replacing.

Would come down to the price of the SMF kit compaired to DMF kit.

Cheers Bryan. The difference in price between an SMF and a DMF is about £3-400, so worth investigating. I might just wait until the clutch gives out and see about it then :o

I have the original clutch still in my car and it's remapped to about 170bhp. There's still no sign of it giving up luckily. Mile counter: 218750.

I am glad my motor was of some use to you.............

Can't comment on the SMF or the remap I am afraid as it's something I have done and can only reccomend coilovers that I have or V-Maxx ones as I have also been in a Superb running those......

WOW......... :o

Fair play and without wanting to put the spoilers on this comment, I am in a similar state but on 208k at the moment........

Cheers Baker. I'm a bit worried about making the ride too harsh with coilovers. What do the Vmaxx feel like, bearing in mind I've got wife and kids to transport?

I have to admit the car looks the dogs with them though ;)

I mean for me I'm just used to them but I don't have kids but have driven all over Europe with 5 adults and hockey gear with no issues.

Your welcome to have a spin in mine if your ever around this way ;)

Much appreciated Baker but unfortunately I've got as much chance of getting around your way as I have of getting a pay rise :'(

I will, however, take your word for it and might take a gamble

Boycarp used to run a set of Eibach springs with OEM dampers on his Superb It wasn't a huge drop but looked really good

Cheers Matthew. I've heard stories about the ride going too bouncy after a while with just springs though :S

I'm going to do the whole kit but can't decide between coilies and just a springs/damper kit. I'm thinking coilovers could be the way forward – nice and low

So I've made the decision and the car's booked in to AMD Technik next Thursday for an AMD remap, Eibach springs, oil service and MOT

Can't wait. I never thought I'd go down with the modding bug again after the Octy but it has to be done. I'm helping keep the British economy afloat. :)

I decided against coilovers because I thought they'd be too harsh for the wife and kids, and I think the standard shocks have got plenty of life in them yet, at least 3 years anyway. The remap was decided by whoever was nearest and could do the rest of the work.

Wish me luck. I'll be posting pics and thoughts soon
