Lovely 1.4 AUB 16v engine

Featured Replies

My son's oil thirsty 1.4 engine ( type AUB ) is such a treat to drive in comparison to my Fabia 2s 1.6 BTS engine. Does anyone know if the BTS is a bored out AUB type 'cos they appear similar?

The 1.4 16v is much smoother than my 1.6 having covered similar mileages however the 1.4 uses SO MUCH oil as I mentioned in a previous topic. Anyone managed to reduce oil consumption without a stripdown? Is it gummed up rings due to the previous owner driving too gently? Would a old fashioned additive like STP give it the clean up it needs? Someone suggested regular thrashings could be the answer which does not sound a silly as it seems....

Using 10w-40 oil at present- would a different grade help?

Just fitted plus & leads at weekend and was STAGGERED at the cost of leads.. over £60!! wot are they made of ? Gold strands?

Love working on my family's Fabias - they're so well engineered.

BTS is chain driven is it not? I think it's a derivative of the VW FSi engine in the Polo but with a regular head and manifold.

That engine is a giggle, recently fitted a cone filter, the sound alone is worth it haha :giggle:

I also noticed oil consumption going up a little bit. I cleaned out the crankcase breather filter - black plastic box on the back of the engine (as you look from the front of the car).

It was absolutely full of yellow :swear:. I put it in a bowl of petrol for a while, swishing it about to try and get the stuff on the inside, out! It's really stubborn stuff though, I think because it was probably the first time it's had it done - it's a W reg :o

You could try that?

I only run mine on 0w40 Mobil 1 oil........5w40 is acceptable....don't know about 10w40 tho'.......and I've never had any oil consumtion problems.

As for the oil seperator on the crankcase breather....I cleaned it out once as above....but this time I just fitted a new one...didn't cost much.....much better now!!

Also try an engine flush using Wynns to get rid of the carp when you next do an oil change.....linky here......

P.S. have you seen the other thread here????.........

That would be amazing, especially with all the seats out. I wonder how much it would cost.... B)

Also, just out of interest, how much was the breather filter?

Oil consumption dropped on mine after a oil & filter change. Also ran through some o-ring snake oil which seemed to help. May be worth trying that? Otherwise keep a small oil container in the boot and be happy with knowing where you stand with the engine (as I did)

Found the info....

Oil seperator for AUB engine...part no.E 036 103 464G...cost £57.94 ex vat

Hey guys, interesting discussion! Just got a lovely Fabia Estate 2002 (...well, its not a vrs, but the MPi engine still drives nicely!) Came with a partial service history, so not 100% when the last service was... Anyway, will do a full service myself, just wondering what oil you guys would recommend? Also, does anyone have the oil filter part number? Many thanks in advance!
