Off road wheels and tyres

Featured Replies

Hi I am looking at getting a kodiaq 4x4 and thinking of putting on a set of All Terrain BF Goodrich tyres but don’t know what size of tyre and wheels I would need? Thanks for any help 👍

They appear to be available in215x65x17 which is a Skoda approved size. But pretty pointless as the Kodiaq is not in any way an off road vehicle and the owners manual points this out. It also doesn’t have the ground clearance for much more than traversing a muddy field.

Ok, I’m not on about hard core off reading like you would do with a defender or something like that but living out in the country it would be handy especially in the winter. Thank you for your time 👍

For winter use, you would  be better looking at a dedicated winter tyre.

Hi BigT

I am a recent convert from Landrover mainly Freelander and also drive other owners range rovers. My Freelander always had the original GoodYear Wranglers for six years of ownership and was very good off road. No need for anything special so I would try the Kodiaq, like me, and see how it goes off road. Going off road is more about looking where you are driving rather than the tyre. All vehicles at the Landrover off road centres are fitted with standard road tyres.

@Fairgame

Welcome.

The thing is Offroad Courses are just that, someone to recover you.  Pity the Kodiaq has tie down points that really are not recovery points.

Wading might be part of even greenlaning, or just going offroad, not a strong point with a Kodiaq.

Also

Most of the tracks on the LR experience days are stone / gravel based... there  is ocassion when there are just mud - but not often and always on the flat...

On a wet or damp day - they will not allow you to drive just up the grass hills - because they know the cars will fail to gain traction... running standard tyres.

Its like motorbikes - if you want to play in the mud - you need nobbly tyres... if you want to race on tracks - you need grippy road tyres.... you want to go touring.. you need harder wearing road tyres...

Its not to say standard tyres wont manage - but the correct tyres manage much better..
